ron P. 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2006 Hello. My new brass bobbin holds the thread too tightly. I have read elsewhere online that one can bend it open a bit as long as you hold the legs up top where it is most liable to break. Any advice on the safest way to do this procedure? Thanks! FrenchCreek 0 Report post Posted April 28, 2006 Try a little bit of candle wax on there before you bend it. Might save you the cost of a new bobbin!
Memquisit 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2006 I'm new to fly tying, but my "mentor" told me, and it works, put a bit of chap stick on the bobbin then attach your spool of thread. It really makes a difference.
Guest Report post Posted July 29, 2006 Run the bobbin across Your nose. The oil will help out alot. I do that on my bobbins with steel balls. I You do bend the bobbin leggs do alittle at a time.
7wt 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 It depends on just how tight you bobbin is. If you are breaking thread, wax won't cut it, you'll have to bend it. I have bent all on my Tiemco bobbins. No big deal, just bend it in several small steps to get it just right. All of my Tiemco bobbins are pretty loose and if I want a tighter bobbin I just use one of my Rites.
