flyfishing99 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 Hi, I'm packing some of my fly tying gear for a fishing trip back to the Midwest from my home here on Kauai. It is like trying to stuff a room into a fly tying gear bag - doesn't fit!!!! Luckily, there is a great fly shop near where I will be fishing for all the things I forgot or couldn't get in the bag. Anyone else have trouble knowing what to take with them????? Byron
narcodog 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2011 The fist time I traveled with my tying stuff it was over kill. Now I carry three or four basic half capes, both wet and dry, hares mask, starling pelt some peacock eyes. Then some thread, silk and hooks along with an assortment of tools. But then I go in a truck camper.

You get to live on a Tropical Island. I live in a state surrounded by PA, DE and NY. Uhh wait that's some of the best fishing in the Mid-Atlantic. Never mind It took a lot of beer to get me on the plane for the eight hour flight to Oahu. Even more beer and a couple of shots of whiskey for the return trip, LA was experiencing a small rumbler during our approach and there was a wicked storm over the east coast. Did I mention I hate flying

Still do not like it, but no other alternative out here.
