Sean Juan 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I want to get a spin rod for guests, brother-in-laws, wife, to have handy for when non-fly-fishers want to go fishing with me. I would like something pretty strong, it would be 99% for schoolie stripers but if a good fish gets on I'd like it to have enough backbone to protect the fisher's ego and the fish. It would be casting mainly plugs and sluggo type jerk baits. I have a few surfcasters but the person/people using this rod would be pretty new to fishing and I think a surf caster would be too unwieldy - I just want to have something available for guests. Thanks for your opinions SJ
Onshore 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Sean, My favorite spin rods are St. Croix, but they are heavy on price. If this is for guests to use, I'd suggest you look at the TICA rods. They are St.Croix knockoffs, for the most part, but I fished one all last summer and fall and found it more than adequate. In your area, both Riverview B&T in So. Yarmouth and The Hook-Up in Orleans carry them.
lthrnk 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I'm with Onshore with the St. Croix but as he said they are pricey and the type of rod you just keep to yourself. I would think that with you location there a quite a few good tackle shops in addition to the ones mentioned. Go in tell them what you want it for and I'm sure they will hook you up with a complete outfit at a manageable price.
