Toulouse, lautrec?

Recommended Posts

Many times my reel seat lock nuts would constantly loosen up whilst fishing and make the fly reel wobble about. Not just on one rod, all of them. I sat down and pondered the situation. Far as I knew, nothing was 'wrong' per se with any of the reel seats. No horrendous mis-match of reel seat O.D.'s and the radius/concave side of reel seat foot.

What to do ?

I found that by simply cleaning off the reel seat & lock nuts & threads with DNA, and spraying on a tiny amount of Tri-Flow Teflon lube, wiping up the excess, running the lock nuts up & down a few times...well, voilà, Bob's your Uncle. No more loosening up on the lock nuts.

Pure magic, what a little lube will do for ya.

Give it a try if your nuts loosen up.

One additional "fix" for a reel that doesn't want to mate up with whatever reelseat you're using is a small piece of masking tape draped over each end of the reel foot before locking everything into place (this works particularly well with old reelseats...).
