  1. Fantastic. What a wonderful idea! If my parents wouldnt kill me I would try to raise some birds too. Great fly phil
  2. i like em!!! great for bass too id say. What is thatt green material? send me a half dozen!!! great ties for sure Phil
  3. That is a beautiful green highlander Jens! I particularly like the way the hook accents the fly. You should also tie up a blue charm variant to go with that highlander! phil
  4. I agree. I have not seen them in 100 packs. Only the 25 packs in the cool hook holders.
  5. Excellent ties, they are all very clean.
  6. I have only fishes algonquin park once and I came away with a really small brook trout. I caught it on a small chartreuse caddis fly nymph size 14 I think. I do not know any specific areas there, but if you picked up a copy of the fishing Ontario Series book (I bought mine from a small bookstore in Huntsville, ON, but you can get them from Canadian tire), these will outline all the lakes and waters and what species are in that area. They will run you about $18. I have the one for the muskokas and it is decent. I also remember the Fishing Ontario 2008-2009 recreational fishing and regulations summary had some good information for finding places to go. Two things I suggest. Bug spray! and absolutely no lead, I remember reading if you have lead on your person you can get in trouble. I do hope some fellas on the board will know more specifics and I hope you catch some memorable fish, I am jealous of you.
  7. Thanks Micke, Merry Christmas to everyone from the great white north, aka Canada eh!
  8. Do you fish these on the avalon? Also for the tail and wing on bombers. I like to use calf body hair or squirrel tail. That way the fly looks a little more uniform. With calf tail the fibers spread out everywhere and don't always look the nicest. Phil
  9. Only tying for a year??? Holy smokes, you have some nice thread control there for only tying for a year. The proportions are quite pleasing also. Great job! Keep it up! Is that fox hair for a wing?
  10. I use mallard for wings on almost all my dry flies. It is cheap, easy to use and looks great. I find mallard to be a much more "full" fibered feather. That said the fibers appear to be fuller, but this could change feather to feather. Woodduck is a dream but for my buck I use mallard. As for teal flank, I use it for beards and collars on salmon flies and as a fake spey hackle on shrimp style salmon flies. It is a beauty world we live in
  11. Ehhhh no way. Looks like we could be fishing buddies. Keep on posting! Post your flies in the salmon/steelhead portion of the forum you will get more comments. phil
  12. Hey man welcome!! Where abouts are you on the island. I am in Mount Pearl and go to MUN, so im not too much older then you. Nice flies, sadly ive seen a bomber longer than that!! lol Nice flies Phil
  13. Beauty fly!! I love it. I think this will do well for browns and sea runs. Have you caught much on it?
  14. Nice box Did you make that fly box?
  15. Woah, wicked fish Post a picture of the fly!!! Phil
  16. bump anyone? I would settle for woodduck flank, teal or gadwall thanks
  17. Nick is this a purely Canadian fishing show with only Canadian destinations?
  18. Keep Posting Jens, love your work Phil
  19. Nick, looks like something we cannot miss. Plus it is great that you can order the season already. Looks great I think no one should miss this show, there is a lack of fly fishing on the networks. Phil
  20. After watching the trailers and checking out the crew, I have to say I will be tuning in. Looks great Pujic! I like the variety of hosts, and the fact that there are some female hosts out there. Good to have this. Just a question; is there any fly tying or talk of particular flies on the show? Also do you guys make it out to Newfoundland and Labrador in the season? Phil
  21. Wow Jens that looks like a killer. Those colours are great. I dont use flies with tails as long as that, I can only imagine the movement in the water. That arctic runner looks like some wild stuff, where do you pick that stuff up? Phil
  22. Thanks Bud, it means a lot! Phil
