  1. Way to go Frank! When I get your flies, I will get these sent out, hopefully Rich5665 has got his flies mailed too. I am looking forward to fishing these, was an educational swap for me. Michael
  2. He also is a darn good fly casting instructor.
  3. Fish-Skeez - pm'd address - no problem, also haven't recieved flies yet from Rich5665 and Student4ever, maybe the mail, or mailing is a bit slow Flytyinfreak wins the award for last minute but on time - recieved some very nice usuals today. The sun is starting to come out around here, let's get this finished up so we can fish these guys! Michael
  4. mnorton - I am sorry you missed it too Got some very nice flies from Avril and Utyer I changed my mind again and am tying some pale usuals - since we had some excellent haystacks. 5 days to go, we are closing in on it. Michael
  5. The mailbox was full to day, with some most excellent flies from Houndog, Flygirl, and Riffleriversteelheadslayer! The weather is finally looking a bit better too! Michael
  6. Welcome Frank, glad you could join us. And flygirl, address sent. (momentarily..) Guess I better finish my flies up, due date is April 20. Good work folks, were getting there. Michael
  7. Another beautiful fly. Makes me want to tie some. Michael
  8. That looks pretty authentic to me - and nicely tied. Interesting choice of hook, makes sense for a lot of rivers. Michael
  9. In the mail this morning were some fine flies from kbranch. I decided to tie some natural/dark Haystacks: Hook: standard dry fly (Grip 11911BL #14, tied a little small) Thread: Danville Flymaster 6/0, orange Tail: deer hair (comparadun, dark natural) body: natural otter (guard hairs removed) hackle: deer hair Michael
  10. Nice, that ought to work. Michael
  11. Received some very nice brown Ausable Wulffs from Ibrb today. If the river will come down a bit (ie if the darn rain will stop), tempted to sneak one out and try it - the march browns should be popping. We still have one open spot, and over a month left, if anyone is interested. Otherwise, I will return your extra fly if you tied 11. Michael
  12. Plenty of time left Good. One spot remaining. Thanks guys for posting your recipes. Michael
  13. Thanks for posting your recipe, address sent. We still have two open spots. Michael
  14. Interesting links, some very nice tying there. Michael
  15. With a nom de plume of beadhead you would almost have to like them! Carl, Does seem a little confused, The Czechs I do believe tie Czech nymphs, but I am not sure if the French tie French nymphs, or if only the French can tie French nymphs Michael
  16. Cool. Nice to hear about those personal connections, Well, only a few spots left to fill I am looking forward to seeing the flies from this one. Michael
  17. I know next to nothing about Micro Nymphs or French Nymphs, other than a nights googling. I saw some lovely flies LuciV posted here a couple years ago (missed them the first time), and some more recent french nymphs "derfliegenbinder " posted on flyforums.co.uk . The basic idea (I think) is small (18-20) heavily weighted ( ) fairly streamlined attractor nymphs. The European competition guys fish them in fleets on long light leaders in fast rocky water (something we have plenty of around here)(All I can picture is myself with a leader hairball in my hand and a very small nymph lodged firmly in each exposed bit of Velcro on my body). I suppose discussion of fishing should be left to Talkflyfishing.com, but was wondering if any of you can shed further light on tying these things. I figure at least I could test them out on a dropper These are just my spending an evening exploring the idea, I don't tie really small flies much, so didn't have any really fine thread, etc. Looking for some good peacock to try some quill bodies. Would like to see some other examples, tying tips, hot spot or trigger ideas, etc. These were fun to tie. Michael
  18. Well, I'll tell you what I did, and then those who knew Fran can chime in with any suggestions. I got the body hair from the side of the heel of the foot, looking for shorter and finer hairs then the toe area, and then just lightly dubbed it on using the split thread technique and a little wax - I am guessing Fran probably just touch dubbed them. Michael
  19. very nice. Michael
  20. Lets see if there is interest in a swap of Fran Betters better known flies, the Usual, Haystack or Ausable Wulff. Variations to suit your local insects fine (in color, material), but let's keep it flies tied for trout, hook size 12 -18, recognizable as patterns mentioned. Due by April 20, don't forget your toe tags and SASE, usual rules apply, First 12 (11 flies, you won't get your own back) You don't have to declare which you are tying, just sign up, but would appreciate it if you would post the recipe for your fly before mailing. I will photograph the flies and post pics before returning them. 1. mlwebb -recvd 2. flygirl -recvd 3. ibrb -recvd. - Ausable Wulff 4. utyer -recvd 5.
