  1. Look at the "cuflyfishn" post above from Jan. 13, 2014. These flies are feather and fur, painted with the Copic Airbrush System. Easy to do!!
  2. Those are incredible! - would love to see a pattern for that snake fly. Not that I could even attempt to tie it...but I can't even decipher what most of the materials used are It is just a regular Deer Hair Fly Body - Deer Hair Eyes - Medium Mono eyes Tail - Grey hackle feather, few strands of flash (Whatever color you like) Coloring of Fur and Feathers - Done with a vinyl mask I created and painted with the Copic Airbrush System (Brown Marker) To see more details: ***** Go to Facebook.com and look up Joe Wedum. Look in the Photos!! It is open to everyone to view.
  3. On feathers and fur it does a good job. You just have to remember that you are applying it topically (ON Top) of the target item. You are not dying the feather or fur. But…… you can treat the feather or fur as if you were. You need to soak then in a water and 10 % acid solution (vinegar) to open up the pores of the material that you want to color. Rinse and let the material dry before trying to spray with the Copic system. You will find the target material are more able to keep their coloring. I been doing this for a few years. Look for some of my other posting or if you have more questions send them to: [email protected]
  4. The question was, "Anybody else tie things that are visually accurate but useless to fish with?" And my answer to that "Sort of"!!! I tie "eye candy flies" for introducing youngsters to fly tying. Dragon and Snake Flies. Who really knows what a dragon looks like anyway? Would I fish them? The Snake i would but not the Dragon Fly.
  5. When you spray the number one thing to make sure of is "No over or under spray"! A tight dry mask will help prevent almost all of this! My guess is you’re using some type of small hole netting to get your scale look. Try wrapping the popper tightly and then use a clothes pin or two to hold the netting tightly on your popper. Also this allows both hands to be free for the spraying. Take a look at what I posted today. If I can put scales on feathers and fur you can put scales on your poppers. If you have more questions send them to: [email protected]
  6. Confession of a Copic Addict, There isn't much new to add about the Copic Airbrush system other than "You’re stopping too soon". Yes, it can do flat surfaces like poppers but why stop there? I do a few Deer hair bugs and I use my Copic system to paint/color fur and feathers. Here are a couple of eye candy flies I tied for introducing youngsters to fly tying. See attached pictures.
