  1. Nice catch!

I've always wanted to fish for gar. But with me being from Pennsylvania. We have VERY FEW. Back in the day, a few of the alligator gar were still around the Ohio, Monongahela, and Allegheny rivers. Now, if any they haven't been seen or caught in a while. But, to our luck, we have a smaller population of spotted gar in the Presque Isle Bay area of Lake Erie. So one of these days, I'm heading up there to try my hand at some pike and gar. Glad your birthday came out nice!

Anyways, Nice catches and for next time, Good luck! :jumpy:

  2. I'd say, Bass Pro, and Cabela's.

#1. they are both very well known.

#2. they have very kind and experienced staff.

#3. they have a good variety of materials, flies, and gear.

I still honestly like the family owned fly shops.

Like TCO Fly Shop in Carlise and State College, Pennsylvania.

The small shops is where friends are made and stories can be told over and over again. Keen knowledge about the areas fishing is also gained on a broader perspective at the smaller shops.

But, I wouldn't doubt Bass Pro or Cabela's in the long run.

  3. Very Nice!

I love sparkly egg patterns for some of those steelies.

I like a pattern I tie. I don't know if you'll be interested. I'll post the pattern soon.

It's a egg pattern with egg yarn veiled over it. It very well resembles a single egg encased in sperm. So it's a very natural looking pattern. It proves to be deadly. Just drift down the bottom of a deep run, and bounce on the rocks. When you see steelhead tailing, I've noticed they are feeding on nymphs and eggs. So thats your sign!

    Keep that reel screaming!

  4. For smallies on the Conewago, Susquehanna, Yellow Breeches, or the Juniata, I'd say the Black or Olive Wooly Bugger. It's nothing special, but it gets the job done! Sometimes making more of a "Flash-a-bugger" pattern works well too!

Also. for Largemouth, I like using Olive/ Black/ Purple/ or Chartreuse Rabbit Strip Leeches.

Two simple flies that get the job done.

Although, I fish a lot of bucktail patterns too.

I tie lots of things. But, what I've listed are my favs.

    Fish hard and Tight lines!
