  1. Two more sets of flies came today and they are both AWESOME! First, Mickalo has submitted a VERY nice pattern called the Devil's Doorman. You guys are going to like the looks of this one. And second, someone from Ga has submitted a very nice black foam beetle-type pattern with a white wing and no toe tags. I'm going to need some help in identifying the tyer on this set.

    Thanks, guys, for the extras.

    Take care

The black beetles are mine. My bad. I completely forgot the toe tags.

  2. If your ever in the market to fish a pristine lake, fortress lake in British Columbia has the best brook trout fishery in western North America. It is a fly in .lake or a 10 mile hike in from alberta. when the park wardens from Banff & Jasper ntl parks use to stock years ago, they would stray out of their boundries from time to time as they were on horseback. Fortress is one of them. brookies can go 5-7 pds easily. BC actually restricts access and the only lodge on the lake will only allow C & R. The only reason it became known and they started to put restrictions was because a genius had flown in and had filled his pontoons on his float plane with brookies, so when he landed back in edmonton, he flipped over. served him right. they are the lake nipigon brookies.

http://www.flyfishalberta.com/fortresslake/brooktroutflyfishing.htm but yes, small stream brookie are magical.

Dang, those brook trout are ridiculous. Have always wanted to make a trip to Labrador for brookies, but may have to change that to fortress lake. Looks like it get less pressure from the website.

  3. Just an FYI, fish in general are much more inclined to eat flies presented by SEC fans. Try it out and let me know how it goes for ya.

I heard SEC fans use live bait in fly fishing-only sections and never de-barb their hooks. In other words, they don't play by the rules and, in general, are poor sports. ;)

Technically not really a rainbow in my pic, it's a Lake Erie steelhead. So in a way a bow, but not really. We Ohio State people like to blur the truth. :D

Bahahaha! The SEC fan comment about made me spit coffee all over my computer!

  4. I am highly superstitious when it comes to my headwear, and I always have a hat of some kind on while fishing. My old standby is an old black OSU hat that I have had for at least 8-9 years or more. It is my hat of choice on most trips:

I broke in a new one this year, a black Under Armour visor for hotter weather. It has worked out OK for me so far, too.

    GO BLUE! ;)

Go blue, all right...go to the Gator Bowl if you're lucky. :D

haha atleast our players can actually play the first couple of games B)

  5. take note of the interestng commentary regarding the creation of the stimulator and the acknowledgement of someone other than kauffmann created it.

even randall kauffmann admits in one of his books that he didnt "create" the stimulator but just borrowed it and made some modifications.

I noticed that. Whoever created it, it's a good pattern.

P.S. checked out you blog and love it. I subscribed!

  6. Ok I've never hooked a fish in the eye nor have I heard of that happening. The spot is fairly heavily fished but both fish were small so I don't think they could have gotten caught too many times... anyway thanks all for the input!

Usually it is the smaller fish that get hooked in the eye. Their eyes are closer to their mouth and tend to get foul hooked more easily. Wonder if there has been an unlucky fish with both eyes foul hooked?
