  1. I'm a Welder/Fabricator who worked 10 years for a rigging/machinery moving outfit. Made great money but was on the road all the time and tended to piss away all I had made on the road once I got home. Currently working as the shop manager/shop hand (ie: flunkie,go-fer,punk) for one of those bathroom remodeling joints.

Wife of 4 years is the general affairs administrator for a japanese / american auto part firm (she's also a glorified go-fer).

    LOVIN IT!! headbang.gif

I'm sure i'm not using it to anything near its true potential yet as I have LOTS to learn about tying and rotary tying in particular, but man it sure beats that acursed hunk I was using!!

I'll let ya know more in a few weeks as I become more comfortable with it.

Got home from work today and noticed the front door standing partly ajar. Could it be,.... dare I dream,.... so soon???

Sure enough, it was a package from Traditional Angler in CO. It looked a little small however and was definitely too light when I picked it up. Once I got it open it was just the few tying materials I had ordered at the same time and a note saying that the vise was being shipped directly from the factory with another carrier. ive_been_ripped.gif crying.gif

  4. No, I didn't just eat some "shrooms" or lick a toad, but I am going to be peaking soon. A new Peak rotary vise that is, biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

My knock-off Thomson finally gave up this past weekend. I've been fighting with it so much I was actually quite relieved when the cam lock arm stopped locking at all. I've been tying more and more the last few months and with all the help and new patterns I've learned (ie; stolen, lifted, grabbed, plagarized, etc) from here and other sites I can now justify the expense. The fact that I can't really afford it, don't know how to use it, and that my wife doesn't know about it is really secondary to my need for immediate gratification. rolleyes.gif

I read just about every review and thread that I could discussing the pros and cons of my top 3 choices and I finally felt confident enough to go ahead and place the order. I'm sure I'll be satisfied with it but if I'm not, I can always blame the fine folks here. laugh.gif

Uh-ohh ....Wife just got home. Shhhhhhhhhhhh shifty.gif I'll tell ya more about it when it shows up.

    Thanks all. Fishyman

  5. Like I said, greetings all.....

Thought I should take a minute and introduce myself to the group. My names Scott, I live in Indianapolis and I've got a problem. They say the first step in understanding your problem is admitting that you have one, sooo.....I have one

It all started innocently enough some 30+ years ago in my youth. I grew up and spent most of my life in Northern Indiana on the shores of Lake Michigan. I started with spincasting for panfish in city parks and farm ponds. Later I would move up to B.A.S.S. Fishing Tournaments and lusting after sparkley fiberglass boats. I eventually tired of all the noise and pressure (besides the fact that I don't look good in flashy vests with a cheek full of RedMan) and moved to Salmon and Steelhead fishing on the Lake and its tributaries.

About year ago my wife and I moved south to Indianapolis and thats when things started to spiral. The combination of not knowing anyone and being in a major city that seemed so far removed from the farms and creeks I had known all my life really got to me. If it wasn't for the occassional weekend trip back home for Winter Steel I'm sure I wouldn't have made it.

One evening this past January my wife and I were in a local outdoor store and saw a posting for beginning fly tying classes being offered by a local club. I had tied (tyed?) some basic patterns for Steelhead previously and had most of the basic tools so I figured I'd give it a shot. I found I had a bit of a knack for it and really enjoyed it after being shown some of the tricks and skills I hadn't learned from books.

To make a long story somewhat shorter, I now know the guys at my local fly shop quite well (doesn't help that it's five minutes from my house), I have a corner of our office permanantly set up for tying, and actually bought a fly rod and reel which has already produced quite a few panfish and most recently some smallies ( the final nail in the coffin was that first river Smallmouth).

Anyway, I've been following the site for a few months already and finally decided I should join and throw in my .02 occassionally. Hopefully I can be a usefull member of what seems to be a great bunch of like-minded folks and an awesome site.

    Thanks for letting me ramble.....

    Fishyman (aka Scott)
