  1. If your gonna fish your adams without wings...it might be a good idea to find out which night is wing night in your local waters. The fish might not go for the wingless adams on wing night
  2. I suggest you try three knots: the Davy knot with an extra turn through the loop, the Trilene knot and the Pitzen knot. The Davy knot is especially good for size 18 and down because of its small size. It is also easy to tie in cold weather. Drawing all these knots is critical for best performance. Keep the tag end taut but draw the knot up with presure on the standing end of the tippet. Lubricate the knot with spit before drawing the knot tight. Done right the leader will often break before the knot. Thanks they look easy enough. Thanks again
  3. Which knots are using to anchor your fly to the line? My improved clinch not doesn't seem to improved.I was fishing a river yesterday where salmon a sea trout play caught one or the other but it took my barb less right off the line and the line wasn't broken just up tied.
  4. I'm a late bloomer @ 45. Last summer my daughter and her boyfriend wanted to go fishing so without our license we sneaked away to a little brook not far from home I remembered having my brothers fly rod from 20 years ago sitting in the basement with a hand full of fly and off we were. Not knowing what the heck I was doing I enjoyed it anyways. Did that for about 2 weeks straight then the heck with this I'm getting my license and trying this fly fishing publicly I was so hooked about 1 month of not seeing much of the wife she joined me and gave it a try. Our next trip was to a tackle shop and got her fully equipped so she could wake up @ 5am on the weekends too and we spent hours of fishing in the water and branches also Then the season finished before we were ready to accept defeat we began taking tying courses. We set up a tying desk in a spare room and all winter we aimed @ mastering our tying skills together. Now that a new fishing season has begun we get to try our new flies with and without success, but that's the name of the game isn't it.We are so hooked the only thing I hate about fishing season is it's shared with mowing the lawn season which cuts into my fishing time
  5. Good point never thought about downsizing Thanks thats why I hang out here...all the good tips come from experience.
  6. Holy long hook...... Maybe mine is a dwarf Black Ghost Thanks for the imput...back to the drawing board.
  7. That seems easy enough thanks a bunch
  8. Heres the scoop.. Put a brand new 7 float line on last week and any cast up to 20'- 25' is fine BUT as I pull more line out it's all bird nested as you all know what happens next>>> a knotty cast. whats with that? Do these line have memory? thanks

WOW this fly fishing things almost requires a college degree lol I'm in eastern Canada fishing streams. In my my fly box so far I've got hare ears, Adams male & female, elk hair caddis, different wulffs, royal coachman, renegades, gnats, muddler minnow , pheasant tail, redtails, scuds and I m sure I missed a few.... Now if I only knew which one to tie next
  11. Hi all, I'm basically counting the sleeps now till I get to stand in the cold rivers to drown my flies BUT the only problem is I'm not sure which fly to start off with for trout. I've tied so many since last fall and dying to try them all but I have no idea when to use what. Any advice Thanks
  12. I've only been tying for about a month..here's a pic of my first deer spin... the irresistible.
