  1. Furimski’s Foam Spruce Moth (variation) A blast from the past. On this one, I let the foam stick out the front end for a little more buoyancy. hook - WFC Model 11 #12 thread - Uni 8/0 tan body - 3mm foam tan underwing - Congo Hair Baitfish Grey collar/wing - pronghorn hair head - 3mm foam tan Regards, Scott
  2. Spent Caddis (variation) Used Craig Mathews’ fly as a starting point. hook - WFC Model 3 #12 thread - Uni 8/0 light olive butt - yarn chartreuse body - Sunburst olive (loop dubbed) wing - Congo Hair Baitfish Grey shoulder - pheasant rump dyed olive head - aftershaft dyed olive Regards, Scott
  3. Iris Caddis (variation) hook - WFC Model 3 #12 thread - Uni 8/0 black butt - yarn chartreuse body - Sunburst olive wing pad/outriggers - Congo Hair Baitfish Grey shoulder - pheasant rump head - Ice Dub Peacock Black (loop dubbed) Regards, Scott
  4. I like the Irish Lough style flies, and gold is my favorite; floats well enough and works as a general attractor. Never a big fan of the standard Stimi (and definitely not on the Tiemco 200); I end up using a lot of hackle on them and they don’t float for very long. For stuff like golden stoneflies or salmonflies, I’ll stick with a Carnage. Regards, Scott
  5. Muddled Clacka Caddis Instead of trimming the butts of the Congo Hair wingpad, I split the tag ends and tied them back on either side, adding a bit more sparkle and floatation. hook - WFC Model 3 #10 thread - Uni 8/0 tan butt - yarn chartreuse body - Ice Dub tan wing pad/underwing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan shoulder - pheasant rump collar/head - pronghorn hair Regards, Scott
  6. Clacka Caddis (variation) Added a little ungulate hair for additional buoyancy; this one could double as a spruce moth. hook - WFC Model 28 #10 thread - Uni 8/0 tan tag - Glo Brite #11/pearl Mylar body - Ice Dub tan underwing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan wing/head - pronghorn hair shoulder - pheasant rump hackle - ginger Regards, Scott
  7. I used naphtha; nasty stuff but you can find it at any of the hardware big boxes. Use it in a well ventilated area. Scott
  8. Chernobyl Spruce Moth (variation) The caddis was somewhat static; this one has a bit more life to it. hook - WFC Model 3 #10 thread - Uni 8/0 tan tag - Glo Brite #11/pearl Mylar shellback/head - 1mm foam tan body - Ice Dub tan underwing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan shoulder - pheasant rump wing/collar - pronghorn hair Regards, Scott
  9. Out in the open it’s easy enough to see, but I also fish them under a lot of overhanging willows where the indicator makes it easier to spot in the shadows; also, on bright, sunny days glare can make it difficult for me to find the fly on the water. Regards, Scott
  10. Ludwig’s Chernobyl Caddis Another interweb find. Tied here as a Mother’s Day caddis. hook - WFC Model 3 #12 thread - Uni 8/0 black tag - Glo Brite #11/resin shellback - 2mm foam brown body - Ice Dub peacock black wing - deer hair dun Regards, Scott
  11. Fixed that busted link; sorry. Here’s the steps used on a Foamhead Carnage Hopper Sequence is the same. Cut another strip of foam (gap width; tie in on underside) Poke a hole for the hook eye Move thread to eye Pull foam forward on underside; pull over eye, tie in at eye Take a few wraps at eye (protects foam from splitting) Cross thread over head, pull foam back, tie in Tie in legs Add indicator Whip finish, SHHAN; trim legs, trim foam (topside and underside Regards, Scott
  12. Campbell’s Foam Hopper (variation) I prefer the full foam head; floats a little better and splats a lot more. On anything smaller, I’d use 1mm foam for it. hook - Dai Riki 730 #6 thread - Uni 6/0 tan butt/shellback/head - 2mm foam tan rib - tying thread (doubled) body - dubbing tan wing - deer hair legs - medium rubber brown indicator - 1mm foam orange Regards, Scott
  13. Campbell’s Foam Hopper A blast from the past. These killed it for me on Soda Butte Creek back in the day (early 2000’s) when you could find space to stretch out and have some fun; those days are few and far between but the fly still works. They float, they’re visible and simple enough to tie that you won’t be afraid to cast them into the tightest spots where the trout live, and won’t risk drowning to retrieve one if it gets hung up. Here’s his SBS if you’re interested http://flyanglersonline.com/flytying/intermediate/part42.php Change color/size to meet your needs. hook - Dai Riki 730 #6 thread - Uni 6/0 tan butt/shellback/head - 2mm foam tan rib - tying thread (doubled) body - dubbing tan wing - deer hair legs - medium rubber brown indicator - 1mm foam orange Regards, Scott

  20. Kingfisher’s Spruce Moth (variation) Started with their version and went from there; although it’s more involved than the patterns I normally use for this emergence, I can see it making a good splat when it hits the water. hook - WFC Model 3 #10 thread - Uni 6/0 tan rib - xsmall wire silver body - Ice Dub tan body hackle - ginger underwing - Congo Hair Shiner Tan shoulder - sharptail grouse wing - pronghorn head - 1mm foam tan indicator - 1mm foam orange Regards, Scott

  25. Thanks, George. My setup is very basic - a 15 yr old Canon Powershot SD750 p&s that appears to have a decent macro, an Ott light + 2 clamp-on lights (LED), and a piece of grey craft foam as a background. No tripod; all shots are hand-held. That’s all there is to it. Regards, Scott
