Montana during the hottest time of year...it is going to be very hard to find un-pressured fish in an easily accessed creek. Keep in mind Montana is under a lot of restriction due to the high temps. Make sure to keep the fish wet! Good Luck.

The shuck shouldn't be much larger than the size of the hook gap.
-
I totally forgot to put the pages and issue on the toe tag... I will post the info here after everyone is done. Sorry about that.

Meadow lake in the wind river range holds some nice grayling.
-
I will tie up a second set as well.

I find the bathroom is a good spot for FT mags.

If there is room I am in if you'll have me.

5x tippet is your biggest problem.

Its is hard to go wrong when talking about fly fishing in Montana... if your wade fishing though you are going to enjoy creeks and tribs more than major rivers. IMO.
-
i like the idea personally but maybe 3 flies instead of 1.

thanks for posting!

Mountain lions! Sneaky bastards.

living in wyoming and bear country I can tell you any bear spray you buy will work (it is extra powerful pepper spray). One thing to keep in mind is if you cross a grizzly and cubs and she gets threatened...bear spray is most likely not going to help. Wind is also another major issue with bear spray. It is a deterrent and not a guaranteed safety net. Make noise while you hike and stay aware of your surroundings and you will be fine. If you are going solo in the backcountry... firearms are always your friend. PM if you have any questions regarding my wonderful home state.

Ok Crackaig,I'm totally intrigued. How did you tie those Cluster midges?
Love all your patterns
Simon
If I am not mistaken those were tied using the paraloop technique.

I agree completely. I have a 5 wt as my highest weight rod right now...and I hate how limited I am sometimes. If the wind picks up above 10mph might as well go home.
-
I bet you can sling hoppers just fine on an 8 wt and montana is good streamer country as well. I have noticed here in wyoming when the wind picks up my 5 wt is just not enough to get the hoppers out along the banks. Plus throwing streamers on a 5wt sucks. The rivers are quite large up there.

new profile picture!

when is the due date? If it is a few weeks away I am in if you'll have me.

I technically can't host a swap yet with only two under my belt but I am definitely in for some trout flies/terrestrial swap
-
I'll check that out. Do you have a good place to get glass beads cause the shop here are very limited to the standard brass, black and chrome beads.

most attractor patterns kill it during the summer months. Royal Wulffs get gobbled as well. I suggest making your way to the big horn river. It can be epic.
-
stimulators in size 12 or any attractor pattern. I live in Jackson and stimulators are hard to beat in the summer when the bugs are out.

The reason I love fishing so much is that no day is ever the same and every time you head out there is so much unlimited potential. Thanks for all the input fellas!
