Hi, my name is Matt and I live just East of the Credit river in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. I've been fishing for 20 years. Concentrating mostly on fresh water species. Bait casting has been my sole method of catching until a year ago when I recieved a Reddington fly rod for christmas.
Since then I've used the rod maybe half a dozen times just to practice proper casting technique. My fly collection consists of a 20-pack of dry flies that I recieved in my stocking. Needless to say, not quality stuff.
This christmas I recieved a fairly generic fly tying kit and some basic supplies. I'm now able to dedicate some time to beginning my craft. I've scratched the surface of this forum and have found many key points of advice. Mainly that repeatition is paramount to consistancy.
Now that I've decided on getting started, I'd appreciate some direction from older members. These are my current questions:
Typically I fish a few locations around southern Ontario. I'll list location and species. What I'm looking for are recommendations of what type of flies I can start producing and any tips that will help me fish these areas more effectively.
Location 1 : The Niagara River - Browns, Bows, Lakers - Just recently discovered this place, been sticking with drop shots and beads on spinner rods. Would like fly recommendations and techniques.
Location 2 : The Credit River - Anything - I live 2 minutes from this river, I use it mainly to practice casting my fly rod. Have no idea what flys are recommended for this river.
