  1. I've come to realize that I'm not getting down deep enough to get the big boys. So I picked up some quick sink level line but I have no clue how to set it up.. How long should it be? Can I connect it to my full intermediate line? I'm looking to get down like 7-9' here's what I bought.
  2. Laid the steel to em last night!!! 9 bass 18-20" missed 4.. I was fishing out front with the 9wt expecting bigger fish should of brought my 8. Anyways my decievers were a hit with those little guys..
  3. Would someone maybe mind posting a picture of a deceiver and maybe an EP fly?? so I can see how sparse I can go...
  4. That EP fiber is not fun to work with at least not for me.. I think I'm going to replace them with a few snake flies... Thanks for your suggestions
  5. Hey thanks guys! I appreciate the approval and pointers given!!
  6. So I could probably lighten up on my deceivers then..
  7. The eel is one I'm really not too sure about.. I know I need to down size the eyes and I'm not sure if I tied it too sparse
  8. Just looking for some opinions on my flies... Don't hold back I can catch all day..
  9. I rescued it alright. I just bought a looped running line and wrapped up the 40+ on a spool for later use.. Now that I can open a shop for line sales in the near future if I keep this up. But lawn test worked out fine so maybe I'm done.... We shall see..
  10. I'm fishing a greys gx900 on a 8wt sage vantage. Line yet undetermined its for sure not going to be the airflo. I fished it this morning before work and on lunch brake and I'm not a fan. So for now I guess I'm sticking to what works and that being a full line...
  11. Thanks for taking the time to spell all that out for me. I had some understanding but not its perfectly clear..so now that you let me know there's a differnce I probably wasted more money on this shooting head I picked up. So probably my next step will be to stick with the 40+ and get up to a fly shop and have em show me exactly what I need rather than blowing cashola on the wrong stuff.
  12. Well what I did is I also purchased a 8wt rio 1.5 IPS shooting head to use in the times I need a faster sink rate. My rod is as well an 8 wt. So there will be a possibility of overloading my rod??? Like I said I'm green and also have no mentor so I'm learning as I go.
  13. Well with as green as I am I thought that the running line and the head were 2 separate not realizing it came as one. So what I'm looking to do is cut it at the start of the running line and make loops in both the head and running line so that I can use other heads. Don't know if that makes sence or not or if it would work. But I would like it to cause a .5 per second sink rate is not enough in some cases
  14. That's what I was thinking either whip or like a triple nail knot..
  15. Sorry I have no helpful info to offer yet but I do have another question... I just purchased an Airflo fast forty plus line and didn't realize that it wasn't a loop system for changing heads. Would I be able to cut the head off the running ling and set up a loop system so I can change heads??? If so what knot to use?? Thanks in advance, Doug
  16. Well yes I can read water and realize that you don't have to cast much further than 50' the fish for the most part are at your feet. Jetty surf and structure. I've been exclusively fly fishing for the beginning of last fall and only managed to hook 3 fish and that's fishing hard 3 days a week. I knew that if I had gone home to get my plugging gear I would at least get a hook up. I guess I just need to stick with it and live and learn. I think I may hire a guide for a day and see what I can learn. Flies stripping options and so on. Granted that all my fishing is land based no boat
  17. Yeah I'm not at all new to bass fishing. I beat the water with conventional gear for years with good luck. But this fly fishing for bass is so far the greatest challenge I have faced. I have no guide or mentor in this realm of fishing. All trial and error. And it hurts the ego.
  18. So far I've tied Deceivers in chartreuse/white white with peacock hurl upper olive white and clousers in the same and some cinder worms. If I can figure out how to post pictures tonight ill post em. Cause I have a eel that I would like to get some comments on.
  19. Yeah I guess that would help... Ill be fishing the surf and bay from land here in nj. Sorry for the vague post
  20. What are your top 10 bass flies?? Colors night/day??? Tying to build a good arsenal I'm new to stripers on the fly.. Any help would be much appreciated...
  21. Hello from Nj... Love me some striped bass!! I've been crushing them on the plug for the past 18 years an now I'm taking to the fly rod. Got some fresh water nymphing skills. So I'm hoping this salt gig won't be too hard..
