  1. Saturday May the 17th. That's sort of official. If that's to early for anyone we can change it. Steve
  2. As seen. It's 3 blocks long they might take a day or two longer but they can't miss it. I'm one of 4 addresses on the street for its entirety.
  3. The real determining factor is the size of stuff they are eating in your area. On the great lakes they fish size 2 articulated flies because they feed so heavily on the goby. Down south of me in clear waters I do fish the 10 and12 more often because that's the forage size. Here it's about a size 6 2xl hexagenia. Our other "bug". Steve
  4. I use almost nothing but a size 6 I just vary in the shank length. Common is the 2nd, standard length (wet) and 1x short egg. I do go up to a size 2 and down to a 12 though I rarely fish anything but the 6. Steve
  5. Tyler, I got your pm and I got you in. We're officially full. Address is as follows Steve Pflugradt 1512 Cedar Saint Joseph MO 64503
  6. Alright ya'll. 1 more spot to fill in the next 12(ish) hours. I'm gonna cut it off at 0800 tomorrow morning. I ready for this swap to get really rolling. I caught over 20 carp yesterday alone. I'm so ready it isn't funny!! Steve
  7. I really like #3 Kirk. I much prefer to sneak up on them with the fly. Or I'll pull it in slowly then make them chase it a little. Grassies will chase a fly on the dead run. I throw in their direction then just strip set over and over until I'm hooked up. Steve
  8. Is funny you say that Piker. First time I took the wife after carp I told her repeatedly to NOT reach for the crank when you hook up. First fish she hooked was a 16lb bruiser and the first thing I heard was zzzzzzzzzzzzddddddddddddd as the reel handle busted 3 of her knuckles bloody. I still make it a point to tell her that and she still gives me a dirty look. Steve
  9. Clear water I would look at muted olive, yellow, or softer Brown natural colors. Try a rough dub craw or a hammerhead rough dub. Also with minnow forage give a shot to a small zonker or other minnow imitationn in white or soft gray. Try drifting some nymphs like stonefly imitations to them or hexagenia patterns. Keep it relatively simple but don't be afraid to throw the book at them. Once you connect record everything. Find the pattern and keep on the trail. The 5/6 will be nominal. Be ready to palm your spool. Make sure to revive them well. You're gonna be in for a battle of one of them breaks the 10lb mark, and a war if you exceed 20. Good luck and keep us posted. Steve
  10. I got you in Bruce. 1 more spot to fill. Who will be our lucky contestant?
  11. Ditz, in that amount of time I would bet I could get one on for you. Though they can be extremely spooky and very picky at times. You HAVE to have confidence in your gear, your fly selection, your ability, and most importantly yourself. Steve
  12. Kirk you had better get in on the carp swap too.... You'll see a little more what I'm talking about with my flies. Steve
  13. Go black or go home... I fish the Missouri River about 350 or so miles (by river) from where it meets the Mississippi. Or water is thick with silt. 6"of visibility is a great day. I fish 3 primary colors. Black, dark sculpin olive (dark brown olive darn near black), and dark olive (darn near black). See a pattern? Also scale down your flies. I fish a size 6 most often. Almost all of my nymphs are on a #6 2xl. All of my creatures are on a #6 standard length. I fish a lot of carp crack, black ops, carp zonkers, and Wizard sleeves. Rarely do we spook a fish unless it gets line slapped on an errant cast (pretty often... lol). Give some of those a shot and also take a look at John Montana's hybrid. The Fly piker is referring to I believe would be McTage's trouser worm or rather the floating trouser worm. Both great flies for certain applications just not all that effective around here often enough for me to have them in my box. Tie simple generic patterns. All of my nymphs (excluding one) are basic simple patterns tied with either soft hackle or rubber legs. All of them tied in the round. I think the more a fly looks like it were scraped from a windshield the more a carp wants to eat it.
  14. I'm hosting the carp swap right now. Get in. We have 2 spots left open. As to your question I'll answer once I have a little more info. What kind of water clarity do you have right now? Inches or feet? What sort of bugs/invertebrates/bait fish inhabit the waters? Roughly what is the water temp? Steve
  15. Problem I find is that it weights the fly to much. I would much rather weight the fly just enough to roll it hook point up then weight the line so as to make the fly settle more gently on the bottom. This is accomplished by simply adding a bullet weight to my tippet and pegging it with a toothpick. Steve
  16. I got you in sir. 2 spots to fill!!
  17. Come on. Only 3 spots left. I'll give this until after the weekend then if it isn't full we're gonna close it up and start tying!!! What's a good due date for yall? I'm thinking maybe May 17th? That's a month and a week away. Steve
  18. Check out www.spanglefish.com that's the website ran by McFluffchucker. Great guy and has some good stuff to get you going. Might look at a couple of my YouTube via as well like the hot core and Scum frog. Steve
  19. Vicrider, I fish carp on dries pretty often. I like bigger hoppers and such in size 6 and 4. I also fish a lot of stimulators (foamulators). Always using 2x heavy hooks. Steve
