Dble Haul 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2005 I've use toluene as a Softex thinner, but I'm not sure if that would do any damage to your rug. It should make it easier to clean up, but I make no claims about it's affect on the rug material.
rougetrout 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2005 Before trying toluene I would use some of the less harsh, organic solvents: Butyl alchol, Coleman gas, napthalene, and the like. Try them in well hidden spots on the carpet prior to using them on the spill if it is in a visable area. These are more selective solvents than toluene and may not take the dye out of the carpet as easily. Toluene will probably solublize most dyes.
Al Beatty 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2005 Hi hexfli, By now if you haven't figured it out it is probably dried in place. At this point my suggestion would be to place an area rug to cover up the bad spot. If you are trying to hide it from your wife, I don't think there is a chance. What ever you do, good luck.
