Question for Scandinavian Tyers

Recommended Posts

G'Day Guys,

Would any of you know the ORIGINAL tying recipe (plus materials) and maybe a bit of history for the 'LAXA BLUE?

Any help will be truly appreciated!

ScandinavianTyer has the recipe right but he forgot the ostrich. The color of the sqiurrel and throat is just called light blue (Silver doctor blue is more fancy name for light blue) in the orginal recipe from Þórður.

Its tyed on a 4 - 14 sized hook and the most effective size here in iceland is 10 but in Laxá í Aðaldal the size 6 is the most common. There are more variations of the fly called laxá brún, laxá gul, laxá svört and laxá grá. Laxá brún (laxa brown) is good in colored water, laxá grá (laxá grey) is good in rain, laxá gul (Laxa yellow) is good when the water temp. is high (in iceland about 19°c) and laxá svört (Laxa black) is good when the weather is bright?? (happens occatinally here in iceland). The color indicates the color of the squirrel...

Hope this helps

Palli

You are right Palli on the picture it does have a black ostrich butt. I just wrote the pattern from the book, so it sems mr. Bates forgot the butt too. I have edited the pattern description so it is right now!
