Guest Report post Posted July 8, 2007 I am very excited to announce the details of the 2007 Fly Tier of the Year Contest! To be honest, I was considering not doing the event this year because I am going to be extremely busy when the magazine comes out this fall. After several months of thinking about it I realized that the FTOTY contest is a tradition here at FTF and I would regret not keeping that tradition alive. I had also considered changing the category structure but I realized that last year was such a huge success and I should just leave it alone. I did however make a few changes that should make the contest better and a little easier for me to manage. The deadline for the contest this year is October 31st instead of the traditional December 31st. Two reasons for this. Many people said they didn't have time to tie flies for the contest because of the holidays late in the year plus it would be nice to actually have the voting before the end of the year. Hopefully I can get all of the flies photographed and the voting setup with my very busy schedule during this time. In the past couple of years I have had everybody submit forms along with their submissions containing both personal information(name, address, etc) plus a sheet containing the material list for each fly. This year the form for personal information stays the same but the pattern information can now be uploaded through a form on the website. By not having to personally type each pattern to put them on the website(I just don't have the time), this form will allow me to automatically associate the pattern info with the proper fly and will make things much easier.
