monty3777 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 Is it really necessary when tying a parachute fly (say, and Adams) to wrap the hackle around the post of the parachute? Would it be a problem to wrap the hackle around the hook as with a traditional Adams with mayfly wings?
mtn 0 Report post Posted July 13, 2007 Hi Monty3777, I'm not really sure on your question but the difference between a parachute hackled fly and a 'normal' collar hackled fly is the 'foot-print' they create on the water. The Parachute will produce the more natural 'foot-print' of the two. Hope this helps.
flyline64 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2007 If you wrap the hackle in the normal fashion, you just have a standard adams with a post sticking out of the hackle. Nothing wrong with that, but it isn't a parachute. As mtn says, the parachute rides flush and is generally considered a more realistic immitation of a mayfly than the traditional hackle version.
