Hi: what are the general colors and sizes of the grasshoppers in central, pa? i know color isn't of the utmost importance, but i like to get close.

They can be different from one area to the next. The best solution is to get out and catch a few..Most hoppers in pa can be copied with a whitlock hopper in yellow or light olive..Size 8-12

I really like the looks of the Charlie Boy Hopper in last year's Hatches Magazine. I need to get a few tied up for this year. i will probably go with green rather than brown.

Hoppers vary widely in color (from light yellows, greens, olives, tans and some very dark browns), even in a small area. Here are a few photos I've taken of hoppers in New York state, that may help illustrate the wide range of colors you may find. I try to keep an eye open for hoppers when I am out and take photos of them for later reference while tying.
