bobfly 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 More fishing flies from the book #4 - #12 and a couple of tubes. I`ve used pony(arctic Runner) in preference to Bucktail as the pattern calls for. Should have a little more movement in the smaller sizes. Another fairly simple pattern for your amusement It pays to enlarge the group shot to get a clearer picture

This fly can live up to its name. It will "kill" salmon. To Stevemcn Bucktail is (or was) used primarily on the Brittish isles for this fly, but today softer hair from Artic fox or Temple dog is more widely used. regards Jens
bobfly 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2008 Arctic Runner aka Polar Pony in the USA is an Icelandic Pony hair... Thanks for the scoop, interesting material. Why not just use buck tail though? Steve Steve, Pony hair is a lot finer than Bucktail and quite a bit more mobile which i think is much better in the smaller sizes especially. It also has a transluscency about it that Bucktail doesn`t have. And, Palli, i`m not a machine I have this disease I caught when I was about 13years old called flymania  which happens to be incurable. Only gets worse as you grow a bit older :hyst: Bob
