JustinDavis 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2008 I love this pattern. You can also change it up a bit. I made this case with a brush of mixed hairs: white, natural and black deer hair. Justin
HobbesFly 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2008 Dude, that is a ballin' looking cased caddis. I'll have to tie some of them up... how do you fish them? Seems like the hair would not be your friend in getting the bug to the bottom.
JustinDavis 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2008 Well, Oliver Edwards suggests that you fish them the Czech nymph style. Basically, you can fish it anyway you fish a nymph. As for the deer hair. Its no problem at all. There is 3 layers of adhesive lead tape underneath the case. It ain't gonna be floating, that's for sure. Basically you want it to bounce and tumble along the bottom, as if it were a real cased caddis that got swept away by the current. Justin

the saltydog 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2008 hey now! great legs on that baby. how do you get the hair to spin so evenly over the lead tape?
JustinDavis 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2008 Because your not spinning deer hair on this fly. Its made with a "Deer hair dubbing brush." i made mine myself on a "Turbo Dubbing Twister" I made myself. The originals are called "Oliver Edwards Caddis Legs" and they are from Siman Ltd. They look like this and they can be ordered from here: http://shop.siman.cz/index.html?pod=/_sd_cale.htm Justin
