Worstcaster 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 It depends what you want to do with them. If you are just looking to keep the guard hairs and underfur for dubbing you can open the skin and tack it stretched tightly to a piece of ply wood, or buy a wire stretcher if you want to leave it cased. Place it in a cool dry place to dry. Heat and moisture are you enemies here. A fan blowing on the skin will speed the drying process. As long as the skin stays dry it should last a long time. Prior to drying you can place the skin in a garbage bag and spray in some flea and tick killer, then close it up for an hour or two. It won't hurt the skin. If you are looking to make the skin flexible and use it for zonker strips then your best bet is to buy some tanning product. Cabela's sells are relatively inexpensive one. If you are planning to dye the fur at all I recommend doing that first because the dye adds moisture when it is first applied and will set you back to the beginning.
