Hywel 0 Report post Posted December 5, 2004 Anybody know what to use to thin Hard as Hull head cement? While the "manufacturer" advertises that it doesn't need thinning, 'out of the bottle' the stuff is as thick as maple syrup. Hywel
Ed Gallop 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2004 I don't have any but maybe they mean no "thinner" required. If it is like Loon's Hard Head it is water based and low odor. Have you tried water?
johnpem 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2004 I use hard as hull and love it but it does thicken up pretty quick, I usually just use fly tying cement thinner. JohnP
Guest Report post Posted December 7, 2004 Acrylics/polymers are no more than water-based, even if there's no water in the contents. In this case I'd go with some artists' oriented acrylic paint thinner (obviously clear.) Otherwise I'd use distilled water. Some of the problem as I see it is when finishing a session's tyings, it's only necessary to use SOME head finish. Does it then make sense to take 'some', transfer it to a small container and thin that small batch only? (inconvenient P.I.A. I will agree, however...)
