  1. Anyone have any experience flyfishing either the bay or surf? I'm on the west end of the island and cant find any info for a starting point. Thanks
  2. My realization that led me to picking up a Peak two days ago was as follows. What tying scenario puts the most strain on a vise's hook holding? stacking, spinning, and packing deer hair. Who is tying those crazy Punk Rocker and Baby Eagle deer hair flies? Pat Cohen. What vise does Pat use? A Peak. Does it help that the Peak is the less expensive of the two? I'd think so In the end it probably doesn't matter which is chosen, they are both great vises and flies get tied on each every single day. Good Luck
  3. Right on. The episode this coming Monday will take place on the Little Red and the footage I've seen is pretty awesome.
  4. ah ha! that makes sense. Thanks
  5. My home town fly shop, The Toad Fly, in Conway,AR has their own show on the Pursuit Channel. Its called Chasing Waters and comes on Monday nights. They are a great group of guys and are producing great show. They are two episodes into the13 episode season and apart from the premier episode http://vimeo.com/83696463 it is all filmed here in Arkansas. If you don't get the Pursuit Channel you can watch it online on the Pursuit Channel website. Check it out and "Get Bent"
  6. Why are Tarpon Flies tied set back on the hook? Its a simple question and I suspect there will be a simple answer. Thanks.
  7. Thanks for the compliments. Yes the boat is different, but it could be built easily double ended. I mainly commented to show that small wooden boats can be great fly fishing platforms.
  8. I built a Pirogue skiff a couple summers ago, super simple and fun to build. I fish from it standing up more than I do sitting down and I have found it stable enough to paddle standing up. Compared to the $400+ plastic kayaks out there there is no other choice than to build your own customizable boat. Its the same principle behind tying flies, I reckon. My boat is 10ftX31in(at the widest) and my girlfriend and I both can fish out of it without too much worry of capsizing, it hasn't happened yet. I put a trolling motor on the back and duck hunt out of it this time of year.
  9. It turns as if the drag is on its tightest setting.
  10. I have a Hardy Viscount 130, its a small click and paw reel. I was fishing it the other day when without me doing anything the drag seemed to go to its tightest setting. I tried to take the spool off but it is stuck on. I removed the cap in the center, and it is still suck. No matter how I adjust the drag it feels like its tightest setting. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks
  11. I tied my own. looking back the ostrich herl may have crowded the gap. I was attempting to set the hook when I saw the strike. Should I have waited?
  12. The other day I was fishing the Little Red with sowbugs. The water was low and the fishing slow. I came to shallow stretch and could see several trout holding. When I made drifts I could see the trout move to the fly and apear to eat but not once did I hook up. I'm new to sowbugs. Are there an special tactics? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  13. Peak gives a decimal number for max hook size of the sw jaws. Just wondering how it transfers to traditional hook size for the max.
  14. Thanks for the input guys. I emailed Midwestcustoms, waiting for a reply. The reason for the 10 instead of the 9 is because I already have a 7 and would like to make a more substancial step up than a 9. I'll probably be making several trips down to Galveston over the coming months and will have run ins with blackfin behind the boat, sharks, and whatever else shows up. In that case I'd rather open doors than close them. As ditz2 mentioned about the reel, I've got a 11/12class picked out for added backing capacity. The TFO rods are the TiCRx and the new Mangrove. The mangrove seems to have a slightly more moderate action that I think would shine with rods lighter than a 10. So, I think I have narrowed it down to the TiCRx or the Redington Predator, as far as commercial rods go.
