Guest Report post Posted June 2, 2004 I am announcing the 2nd (Annual?)Tom Nixon Memorial Fly Swap). Tom Nixon died a littel over a year ago (May 29, 2003) for a battle with cancer. Tom Nixon was a pioneer in warmwater flyfishing, writing the book "Fly Tying and Fly Fishing for Bass and Panfish," which has seen three editions. The swap is open to the first 15 tyers to sign up. A total of 18 flies are requested, the extras going to make a shadow box for auction at the Contraband Fly Casters Conclave October 2nd, and the others to be auctioned off as fundraisers at various conclaves (last year these included Contraband Fly Casters, Red Stick Fly Fishers and North Arkansas Fly Fishers). Any extra flies from dropouts wil also be used for fundraising for various groups (CCA, etc.) The rules are the pattern must be one of Tom Nixon's (not all of those are found in his books, there are others featured in other books) and if yoiu participated in last year's Tom Nixon Swap, you must tie a new pattern. Please respond to Maark Delaney at [email protected] to sign up for a spot in this swap. I will try to put up some Tom Nixon patterns up on a website that can be accessed through the sites http://cbfc0.tripod.com and http://chemprof.tripod.com/fishing.html Last year's swap may also be seen at these web sites. Sign-up deadline: June 15, 2004 Deadline for flies to reach me: September 1, 2004 Mark Delaney 316 W. LaGrange St. Lake Charles, LA 70605-1508 Phone: 337/477-3845 Mark Delaney June 1, 2004

BusterWolfe 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2004 Mark, Put me down for the Purple and Gold, spinnerbait style. But I have a couple of questions: 1. I plan to build the spinnerbaits myself (God bless Tom, he was an engineer's engineer), but do you think "store-bought" spinners would be OK. And B. Know any good places to get purple "rubber hackle?" Thanks.
Guest Report post Posted June 3, 2004 The last time I purchased purple rubber hackle it was from Jann's Netcraft. I just looked at their website , and I can tell you to look under "Lure Making" and teh subheading "Skirts". The stuff doesn't appear under the "Fly Tying" section. If you don't find what you need, contact me. I think I have some purple rubber hackle (I don't use it much). I don't see a problem not bending your own wires for the pattern. Guest Report post Posted June 5, 2004 This is so wild! I've had your Bass and Panfish site in my favorites for over a year! You've been a help to my idea factory for a long time now! Well, Tom was anyway. When I first saw thisthread I wanted to enter with the 56%er, but mr. Fish beat me to it. I'll take a look to see what else is there.
