fliesandfish 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2009 Hey i was wondering if anybody knows of a white stone fly nymph. I was exploring around in a southern Vermont brook and i found one. sorry that i don't have a picture but it is transparent white with black outlines. It has black eyes and its abdomen is dark and hazy. I'm new to entomology so could you help me out thanks. My pictures came out too yellow and do not show its actual appearance so i thought a description would be better. it was about a size 16. Tight lines and busy bobbins, Chris
Dale 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2009 Sounds like it may be an instar of one of the more common stones. Each time a nymph molts they look much lighter in color for a time before gradually going back to their original, darker color. That's why light colored nymphs work very well at certian times of the year and not during other times.
