  1. I introduced myself on the Fly Tying Bench, and then I read a little farther down the page and thought this was probably the best place to do that. Plus, apparently I need to get a certain number of posts to move from bait fisherman to whatever's next. I was born and raised in St. Anthony, Idaho and work there still. When I started fly fishing, about 40 years ago now, we called the river in town the North Fork. I thought caddisflies were moths and fished with renegades and grey hackle peacocks. Mike Lawson was my 7th grade woodshop teacher and i used to hunt ducks and fish with nightcrawlers in the Railroad Ranch. Hopefully I can gain something from and add something to this site. troy
  2. Do you know when the next tying conclave in idaho falls is? I do...It's April 15th and 16th at the Shilo Convention Center. troy
  3. I'm not sure about your area, but right now I'm going to quite a few fly tying expos and shows here. Two weeks ago I tied at the Western Idaho expo in Boise, and soon I'll be in Lewiston, Salt Lake, and Idaho Falls....The advice to find a club is great, and if you can find some shows to go to, even better.
  4. Thanks Bruce. I'm tying some more for Hans' site right now and I'll try to take some pics as I go. I fish mostly with caddis on the lower river these days...well, when it warms up..
  5. Yes, it's James Bowen...I don't know what happened to him, but he's a great tyer...
  6. I have a fly tying box made by Benchworks that works great, but it's big and bulky. The only time I take my tying stuff anywhere is when I tie at expos around the area....the box and a small duffel bag to put my OTT light in works well for that. troy
  7. The hardest fly for me to tie, and tie well, is Rene's no-hackle. He has tried to show me how to tie it, and Mike has tried, to no avail. I can get it pretty well, but nowhere near what those two can do......I need to just put some time in on just tying that pattern. It's all in the feel, I guess, and Rene now has to wear a brace on his left hand from the repetitive stress of years upon years of setting those wings. I can tie a passable version using duck shoulder feathers. troy
  8. Nah....They've all dried up. No fishing here....
  9. I just wanted to introduce myself, since I just joined the forum. My name is Troy Allgood and I live in St. Anthony, Idaho. I'm 47 and have tied flies since I was about 6. Mike Lawson was my 7th grade woodshop teacher and I've known Rene Harrop and his family my whole life. I look forward to reading and responding to a few posts. Thanks, troy
  10. I just tried a Bodegas Norton 2006 "Lo Tengo" Mendoza Malbec that is awesome! And at 9.99 a bottle, it's a steal. Another favorite is ShooFly Shiraz. The last one I had was a 2008. Another great one is Yering Station Shiraz Viognier 2006....
