As noted in the article, old technique. What I found surprising is the article spends a huge amount of time discussing how picky permit are, and yet that is the fly highlighted. I'd worry a bit about the monofilament wearing out dragging it across the bottom, but interesting tie nevertheless.

I tie some permit flies and they usually don't have a keel, but might have to experiment how keeled flies vs non-keeled flies move in the water, and of course whether they get caught up in the grass. Cool article thanks for sharing.
