  2. Hook: Partridge BIN #14 Thread: Sheer 14/0, orange Rib: Copper wire Abdomen / wing case: Pheasant tail Thorax: Squirrel The tips from the wing case are tied back to suggest legs at the front of the thorax.
  3. So effective; so simple... it makes you wonder why we bother with the more complex patterns Perfect for grayling: If you own some Chadwicks 477, then use it! If not, search for a substitute that gives you confidence. Hook: Your Choice (This is a Varivas 2120WB #14) Thread: Copper wire Yarn: 477 (or substitute) Catch in the copper wire Wind a base layer of the wire with finishing near the bend of the hook Catch in the yarn Bind down the yarn and return the wire to the bend of the hook. (You can add more wire to achieve greater depth here) Wind the yarn up and back. Try to achieve a taper at each end. Whip finish at the bend and add a drop of varnish Also worth trying with pink wire: More here: Tying the Killer Bug ~Dave
  4. Thanks for the comments. Exactly Ray. I am certain it adds to the translucency. Worth also a butt of pearl wrapped over the bare shank.
  5. Really nice.... I can imagine that cast amongst an evening spinner fall

  12. A beautiful fly with all the 'letumgo' characterstics. Quality.

  15. Nicely done I like muddlers alot for stillwater, but I could see me using this on the flowing stuff...
  16. Thanks folks. Karsten, the body is nothing more than open thread wraps ad CDC. To be fair, the whole pattern has probably, at most, only 20 wraps of thread. As for the hook, they are very strong, even in a #20. Well worth a try - especially if there's the chance of some larger fish
  17. Thanks folks. David - agreed. When faced with boisterous / bouncy water, I prefer a hackled fly. However, much of the water (and the fish) demands simple patterns fished through smooth glides / feeding lanes - where a more heavily dressed pattern may often be refused. Cheers, Dave,
  18. Hook: Partridge SLD #20 Thread: Sheer 14/0, primrose Wing: CDC
  19. Beautiful. I like your Tupps mix Ray. It looks excellent as a soft hackle.
  20. Useful in a Blue Winged Olive hatch: Hook: Partridge SLD #18 Thread: Sheer, 14/0 tan Tail: Coq de Leon Abdomen: Orvis Spectrablend, light olive Thorax: Orvis Spectrablend, ginger Wing: CDC
