  8. any flies that there recipes call for hooded mergansers. The flank feathers r almost identical to a woodduck, but they seem darker and denser.I will definately keep these for nymph tails and legs..and ,maybe dry fly wings.Any one with any experience tying with hooded merganser(sawbill)feathers input is appreciated. shane
  9. and fish with wooly buggers dead drifted and streamer style.Tie you some glo eggs and fish right when they stock.Be persistent.Study the river, dont just go thrashing onto it with out taking a long nice gander.Fish upstream, watch for surface feeding,,, starting early spring-through mid fall.above all else keep your fly over fish, where you, after a bit,.. have found them. shane shane

  21. I should be tying, for late winter early spring.I'ts funny,i always looked at soft hackles as out dated, but since i've been researching them and tying them i am finding myself intrigued in yet another form of tying and wet fly fishing, something i have rarely done...I high stick with nymphs all the time and swing streamers across the current, but this year i plan on doing some classic across down stream wet flyfishing.Any tips would be appreciated..............weight for instance,I have been tying a lead strip on each side of the shank to keep the fly porpotioned correctly?Or should i just use small shot????????????? shane
  22. No criticism from me,before i started fly fishing, when i was about 14,every trout i caught, got there neck broke. My dad loved to eat them so i would always bring them to him.I have since become almost a 100% catch and release fisherman. That is not to say if the regulations permit and i am hungry and i catch a nice trout,he is going to be grilled and in my stomach. shane
