  1. I told you that Dart is thorough. What Jeff said, plus for display flies, don't touch the floss that will be tied in with your fingers, use a fine tweezer to hold it for the tie in. The oils on your hand will cloud the floss eventually. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Futzer
  2. At least for tying material, but with all the money you'll be saving a see a new rod in your future. Cheers Futzer.
  3. Dang Fred, you culinary master you. I am headed to the store this very morning for some Capt. Crunch. And Day5 I slapped my wrist with a ruler just for you. I will try RiffleRiver Steelies recipe next. keep em coming gang these all sound yummie. Cheers, Futzer. Ps Cruncher, "What about some smoking recipes as well?". I prefer a good Cuban when I can get them, but salmon smoked with apple wood is dandy.
  4. Brian, Will, we need recipes, thanks Futzer.
  5. www.feather-craft.com and Tiemco 518s, hope to see you in the itsy bitsy teeny weenie category at FTOTY. And yes, support your local shop if they can order for you. Cheers Futzer.

  7. Oatka, us far aways are very impressed, and would hope for some pics, and a play by play. Best of success, Futzer.
  8. Tybugs, plan on the opener at the box canyon of Henrey's Fork, Wwe camp at the box canyon camp ground, and rain be damned, hope for the big stone flies. keep in touch, details to follow, all tyers welcome, but I ain't opening my box until day 2. Day5 is welcome too, but it is Trout, you know little tiny top water, but we will take good care of you. Cheers Futzer.
  9. Ok, I may get some heat here, but what is your favorite deep fried recipe, that is I have too many brookies, crappies, bluegills, or what ever in my pond, lake, stream etc and it is best to weed a few out. Mine is high mountain brookies, above 8000 feet, and upwards of 10,000 feet. We hit a super small feeder creek in the Big Horn mountains each year, and catch our limit of 2 to 4 inch brookies, then I dip them in beer, un-fizzy, left out for a day open. Something good. We eat them whole, Japanese style. I soak the small fish in it for about an hour, then dip em in mixed half corn starch, half flour, and deep fry at 375°, and eat em whole with really horseradishy cocktail sauce and adult beverages. Cheers Futzer
  10. Hi Fire Tiger, the pic link broke, and I am anxious to see your great pattern, Cheers Futzer.
  11. Fur, feathers, synthetics and fluff, I experimented with putting combinations in the pay laundry drier to be caught in the lint filter, before coffee grinders, to come up with a Tuft's indispensable dub, the weirdest dub in the world. Oh and I had to search to find a laundry that had lint filters, and that I could put a piece of nylons in the filter as cheese cloth, so to speak. That was until I was banished from the pay laundry. We are fly tyers; we need not explain our compulsions. Cheers Futzer.
  12. Hi GLF, one critique more is less, mayflies are delicate, the tail, wing and hackle are a bit heavy. Bruce and Claudia Rock, so take this constructive criticism, and keep tying and posting. And go fish what you have tied, you will catch fish with your efforts and that is what gets us all giggly like a schoolgirl. Cheers Futzer.
  13. Hello Pa Native, nice work, a recommendation, clip the ends of the crystal flash in the tail at 45° angles, I go back to Lefty Kreh that taught us you get more flash at the tail that way. Second, a little softer hackle, more buggy, think marabou-ish. Think stripper pole, old school burlesque. Other that that, great work, and it will catch fish, guaranteed. Cheers, Futzer.
  14. Hi GLF, I applaud your first effort. I have tied more RWs than I care to remember at this point, and I would make a few constructive criticisms. I preface that with a Royal Wulff will get trout tiers as passionate as any classic Atlantic Salmon fly tier, that is the Holy Grail of flies both RWs and Salmon flies. I am going to recommend that our good friend Dart tell you his recommendations. Dart just hosted the Royal family swap and he and I have been mentoring about RWs for a while. In the mean time, since I know Dart is working a great deal from now through the holidays, go tie # 2 and throw it somewhere, and make sure it lands correctly. Keep #1, as you can always pull it out 10 years from now and say that was my first, proudly. Keep tying; Royal Wulffs are a simple fly, but definitely the big leagues. Cheers Futzer.
  15. I agree with all the above advise, and I also will use wing feathers from other birds for smaller biots, Duck wings and even sparrow wings for really small stuff. It is impossible to find those dyed in any color, but a permanent pen like a sharpie or prizmatic pen works fine. A.K. Best writes about using dyed hackle stems, and sells them. I use those sometimes on really small flies, 28s and lower. Also don't forget that sometimes you need to soak the biots in water and they will bend better with less splitting. I lay down a drop of thin cement to the base thread, right before I wrap the biot, and this will keep it from breaking from fish bites. Cheers Futzer.
  16. And most local carnivals. :headbang: Something to be proud of. Cheers, Futzer
  17. Pretty goo already got six on the mornin and can pretty much make them pretty round just have to use a little zap a gap here and there to keep them from spinning around the shank :headbang: Make a tighter base on the hook shank from the eye to the bend. Use very strong thread utc 280 d or guiderbrog "g" if you can find it. Pull hard. zapagap can make the egg hard. use head cement it tends to soak in to the core better. Making for a softer egg. Maybe Ill do a video this weekend. Brian would really appreciate it, as would I. He is really interested in learning to tie good egg patterns. Cheers Futzer.
  18. Clown wig would make me laugh, clown wigs and I am rolling on the floor. Are you banded from Ringling Bros. circus now? Cheers, Futzer
  19. Bummer, take care of yourself, there are glo eggs to be fished. Jeff
  20. Its cold windy snowy and rainy here say some precipitation form not hail but its doin it Sounds like a perfect day to tie, then, is your flu getting better? Jeff
  21. Well, we'll give it a few more minutes, but I guess it is just too good a fall day to be out fishing. Thanks to those that played along, and we will try this again sometime, say late Janurary maybe. When more of us are snowed in around the fire, tying. Cheers, Futzer. and don't forget to check out Day5's warmwater bug dvd, and the prerelease sale on now. http://www.day5flies.com/WWSDVD.htm
  22. Try some 6/0 thread and when you do the 3 wraps over the yarn, really crank on the tension. then do one wrap behind all the yarn and one in front. Then whip finish. Good man, Jeff
  23. I know Brian, sometimes you just have to be prepared to be dissapointed, but don't ever let that stop you from doing something you want to. How is the Egg tying coming? Jeff.
  24. T minus 29 minutes, gang, I am a little nervous, maybe the steelheaders are on the fall water. We'll see what happens, but anyone here at the hour is a true FTF super user. Cheers, Futzer.
