  1. Tie well and true and honorably! Futzer.
  2. C is correct, that way when they light on the water, the ends bend slightly and make more of a "foot" impression in the surface film. And Sorry when I said 40°, I actually meant 120°. I had a geometry bubble burst in my brain. And I was trying to figure out how to tie a floating Pterodactyl for the FTOTY awards for Pike top water. Cheers, Futzer.
  3. I just figured you were the man to bring the big guns in the Pike Topwater cat. And the man to beat. I was thinking something like a severed floating finger, Lifesized muskrat, Red 6" stilletto heel, or a penguin. And just wanted to have some fun. Cheers, Futzer.
  4. Very clean tie Jeff. build the body up a little so it has a carrot shaped taper, and a slightly generous hair cut on the bottom of the hackle, I cut about 40° as viewed from the eye. Now young man lets see 200 Dozen of them by next week. Cheers, Futzer. PS, you could be the man to beat at the FTOTY awards, I will have to bring my A game.
  5. The killer electron gremlins nuked your picture!
  6. Having a hard time with this one, attempting a Duckling out of deer hair, but the bill is ticking me off. Just wanted to hear what you are tying. especially Day5! Cheers, Futzer.

  8. Two more days to go until we go for the record. Futzer.
  9. Yessir, and if that don't work go for the parachute Adams. :-) Cheers Futzer.
  10. Hi Dart, Before Whiting and such beautifully fine hackles we just used our standard Grizzley necks. If you can'f find any send me a pm, I could find you some around here in the dungeon. Cheers, Futzer.
  11. Welcome aboard, We love to see fly pics and offer creative criticisms and ideas. Cheers Futzer.
  12. Thanks, you could always get the 2 weight out and tie up some small Dalbergs, Buggers or spiders and fly fish for the gills and bass. Cheers, Futzer.
  13. Hi Shane, God please tell me the Squirrels are dead, I had a vision in my head of you and a straight razor down at the park, saying Here Squirrel. Just kidding. Cheers Futzer.
  14. after tying a dozen, I have trouble casting. Cheers Futzer
  15. Yes, I also work on cath labs at St. Alphonsus and St. Luke's, Boise. This spring I will keep the 3 wt in the car. I totally agree that Crappie are big fun. I do feel a little guilty when they are on their beds in the spring, and definately put the bigger ones back then. I also get excited when there are large forage fish in a pond, as that usually means large pike or bass are in there too. Have you ever fished the golf course ponds in Twin Falls, by the river? That is big winter fun too. Thanks for the info. Cheers, Futzer.
  16. Hi BigLost, Where are you finding 15" Crappie in Arco? I fix some of the X-ray Equipment in Idaho Falls, and I have a 3 wt. Cheers, Futzer.
  17. Hi BigEHokie, good first effort. As you know in this forum there is no lack of comment or information. One tip, I use with a hair wing like that. Cut your clump of bucktail and stroke out the unwanted hair, broken ends etc. Then I use a hair stacker on mine to even the tips up. Then I clip the base to the length of wing I want and holding the hair base in my left thumb and forefinger, I dab a small drop of Griff's thin head cement with a tiny brush on the base and tie it in. you only need a little as the hair ends will suck it up, so don't use too much. This eliminates trying to clip the hair only partially tied to the hook and makes for less area to tie it off firmly. Less danger at clipping the thread wraps too. It also keeps the head clean and tight and since you can hang on with your left hand while you tie it off securely, it keeps the hair from spinning on you. Keep up the fine work. Cheers Futzer.

    Veterans Day

Great Message and idea for a swap Fred. And my sincere thanks to all our Veterans out there. Cheers, Futzer.
  19. I was searching online for the kind of nymphing that I had been introduced to by Riley Cotter, who is on Fly-fishing Team USA. He said that they just called it "Euro-nymphing", but somewhere online it said that it's Spanish nymphing. It's basically a three-fly rig: a dry as an indicator, a heavy nymph as an anchor, and a small attractor as a point fly. I could be wrong, but I think that the correct term for it is Spanish nymphing. Anyone with any other ideas, feel free to post. Thanks for the research HobbesFly, Too bad it is not legal in Utah, we have a two fly limit to each line. You learn something every day, if not you're just not paying attention. Cheers, Futzer.
  20. Hi Will, just curious, but what are the minnows for? Cheers, Futzer.
  21. Since there is a handy soapbox, I must say. Yes, big box stores do have cheap prices, but I always try to support a local fly shop. There are no Wal-Mart’s that would let you cast 3 or 4 $700 rods on the lawn for several hours, or Wal-Mart employees that would happily tell 500 anglers a day what’s working and where, and watch water flows like a hawk. I know no Wal-Mart’s that would sit down and show a beginning tyer how to construct a certain fly, or send my broken Sage rod in for me. I have several shops that keep my own personal coffee cup and always have some coffee on, whether I am buying anything at all. I also believe shooting the BS at the counter for 30 minutes is just good fish karma, and have met many fishing buddies and fellow tyers that way. I don't think if Wal-Mart offered guide serivces, that they would work from dawn to dusk, and be our guide, driver, chef, teacher and friend, every single day they could book. So yeah I do buy some things from wholesalers to save money, but I always try to show a local shop some financial love. If you are ever in Silverthorne, CO treat yourself to a visit to Trapper Rudd's Cutthroat Angler's, the best fly shop there is. Cheers Futzer.
  22. :hyst: In the U.S. most of our nymph fishermen are considered "Blind" nymphing, Let me hear from the guides out there, you know what I am saying. Cheers Futzer.
  23. That's the spirit!!!!! Tykos33, and good to see another user with a palindrome user #. Cheers Futzer.
  24. No not a bait fisherman, just a pontooner that watches over a 1000 rental rafts splash over his line some July days. I don't fish it in the summer anymore. And come on, its the only big river in Utah with trout. Someone has to try to protect it. I am sure Vegas photo has a good sense of humor. Cheers, Futzer.
