  1. OK! Thanks for the responses. I've ordered some Partridge hooks in the 20 and 18 size...... Old Hat, thanks for the pattern advice for the BWO's......I'll give it a try also. When you say the pattern works in a size one or two larger than what is hatching.....do you mean size 18 dry fly hatch and then you use a size 14 or 16 Partridge 15NB tied Klinkhamer to match that hatch??? Or do you mean that you might use a 18 Klinkhamer which is already a couple of sizes larger than an 18 dry fly hook??? (I"m sorry to be such an idiot.....I'm very much a beginner at all this.) jim
  2. Hello all, I've been lurking here for a few weeks. I'm definitely a beginner fly tyer in comparison with the people on this board; I live (and fish) in Wisconsin. I have decided that I would like to tie some hanging body emergers. Let's just say I'm going to tie some for the BWO hatch that usually is around a size 18 dry. I was thinking, well if I use a 1x fine scud hook like a Tiemco 2487 this is 2x short so I should use size 16 for this hatch. I however understand that some tyers think that you should have a "full length" under the water (to represent body and nymphal schuck and a "full length" at the water level or above to represent the emergent insect; I don't know how that theory would translate into hook sizes (I suppose you could measure the shank length of standard dry fly hooks and work from that.) What do you guys think (and do)? I would appreciate any help, take care, jim PS: I was going to tie some Klinkhamers (which I first read about on this board a couple of weeks ago); are there other hanging body patterns that you particularly like?
