I been tying for a couple of yrs now and need some syestem to my tying to improve, some where ive seen a photo of 40 flies that cover every every discipline for tying trout flies? does anyone kmow where?or what the flies are? decided to work my way through them, but im still sure that the most flies catch more anglers than fish and 12 flies will catch 99% of your fish? just dont know which they are yet
  5. hi, im goin toledo on hols visitin the friend who got me into fly fishin the 1st 2 weeks of oct, so as not to appear completely dumb what flies should i tie for salmon and trout ( i only been fishin for a couple of yrs and he and all his mates have fished for ever)
  6. wow , thanks, dont half learn some stuff on this site
  7. Hi, ive heard that high stickin is very simular to czech nymphing? how is it differant? and what rods do you use for high stickin? 9' seems to be as long as you like single handed rods over there, ive only seen a few 10' rods advertised, 2 english rods and a loomis, $600?
  8. are some materials easier to dubb than others? if so what is the easiest? just started trying to dubb, my hands are either that rough its like their covered in velcro and I cant get the dubin to let go, or that smooth I cant spin the dubb, and it always turns into a shoe lace. to get it to wrap arond the thread it is that tight that i might as well use floss, or it resembles a bit of string spiralled around the thread that unravels as I wind it! At what point does the frustration of tying turn into pleasure?
  9. Some friends of mine shoot game, they wild fowl, stalk deer and control foxes. Can anyone advise how to take capes and saddles off birds and preserve them, also how to deal with hide and pelts? or give an information source. thanks
  10. as my other hobby is blacksmithin I made my fly vice, a copy of a basic screw clamp type jaws set at an angle the same as the fixed angle vices Ive seen, prob 30deg. Since i have seen vices wose jaws are almost vertical, and I seen cranked jaws which would appear to allow more room for big fingers to get to the hook, which, by the by, does seem to be a problem for me. Is it just my cack handedness or are some jaw shapes and angles easier to work with? or is it just practise and preference? cheers
  11. Hi from the uk, just started fly fishin this year, been coarse fishin for a while, the castin and catchin on a dry is what had me wanting to have a go for some time but thought it was just for the elite, or rich? A guy came to church who lives in toledo and been fishin for years so now im fly fishin. Got sold a loomis rod to learn on, but it was the best I could afford and it'll be good when I've learnt how to cast? Ive fallen for the "lure" of catchin on my own flies so have embarked tyin lessons, struggle with manual workers hands tryin to do small gentle stuff, among my many problems is keepin the feather on top of the hook while I wrap it and not let it spiral around the hook, so Im still pretty basic! amazing site, cheers
