I really wasnt trying to complain but i am sure everyone on this board has been there before. I've spent alot time and effort trying to make sure that what i am tying will catch and then you hit the lake and think to yourself the whole time bite, bite, bite. I can generally pull at least 3-4 rainbows in the 20 plus inch range from this lake in a couple of hours and very rarely have i caught bass. Makes ya scratch your head a little. Thanks for the input and the kind words.

So i have only been tying for a few weeks and mostly wooly buggers. When i took my creations to the lake this morning and last week both times i have caught bass and not a trout to be seen? This time of year bass fishing is extremely slow here and the trout should be putting on the pounds for winter. I was fishing on a type 3 down deep just a slow troll from my u-boat. Does this have anything to do with my tying or am i just unlucky or maybe i should be thankful for catching anything. The bass today was 17" and fat so it isnt all bad. Any feedback is appreciated.
Cheers,
Dave

I have 3 Mustad Sizes in size 8 3xl Size 6 4xl and size 4 5xl hooks that i have been tying wooly buggers on and looking for the next fly to try my hand at. I have Marabou in assorted colours, chenille, gray ghost crystal flash, diamond wing fiber in red, black grizly saddle, buctail in olive and natural mallard flank a little brown dubbing etc. I fish mostly still waters on Vancouver island. Any help would be appreciatd. I will be picking up more hoos this weekened and thinking about maybe tying Chrominoids.
Thanks for the point in the right direction.

Can you use thread, wire chenille, beads etc from a dollar store or will the stuff just fall apart? When you buy your tying supplies does everyone strictly buy from a fly shop or online? Can you get stuff at a more reasonable price by going elsewhere? Thanks for the info.

I have never known anyone to target them. I have caught them on dark wooly buggers/leeches by accident.Good luck.
