  1. depends when your come over, but I could certainly point you in the right direction or catch up for a fish if time allows???
  2. There is a nation license that covers everywhere (except lake Taupo in the north)... you can get them online or all the sports shops have them. Depending how long your here for, you can get a day or week license but a full season is only $105 NZ... pretty cheap really.
  3. Yep, Lake Dunstan is my home waters... I live 10km along the road from Cromwell to Wanaka (Pisa Moorings) on the shore of Lake Dunstan. The lake is bustling with holiday makers at the moment with the annual Christmas break, so I'm leaving to them and erecting fences... it's not to heart breaking as we have had a lot of rain and the lake is a bit discoloured. It should come right about when everyone starts back at work
  4. This is just to introduce myself, my name is Mike and live in the central South Island of New Zealand. I have been fly fishing for about 11 yrs and tying for around 6 yrs. I frequent a board in NZ and was searching for something on fly patterns when I found your site (great database by the way). It's funny when you join a new forum it takes a while to navigate the different setup/layout for the site.... the New Zealand one is a lot smaller so much easier to keep up with. I have recently built my own house so now live about 500m from a lake, surprisingly I don't fish it as often as I expected. My target species is Brown trout 99% of the time with the odd Rainbow thrown in to keep it interesting. With tying I enjoy tying emerger patterns the most and a lot of nymphs... I have just recently built a compartmented display box to house my overflow of flies in an attempt to carry less flies while fishing. I now carry 3 boxes while fishing and keep the stock pile of around 2-3k at home. Here in New Zealand you don't need to carry specific patterns for hatches so much so it's easy to carry a staple array of nymphs all year around. Being summer now, I do carry an assortment of terrestrials for some top water action, I'm still waiting for some decent Willow grubbing action to really kick off. I am on my summer holiday now, only to have heaps of rain blow out most of my favorite waters. It just gives me some time to tie flies ) Well that's enough from me, just a quick intro. Cheers Mike. A couple of pics to accompany my intro...
