  1. OK....OK,all you guys are funny.I did say that I think It would be cheating.I do not fish for trout, largemouth bass is my game. For bass,as far as bite triggers, sight is third on the list, smell is first then sound and finally sight. I like to watch Bill Dance,I get a lot of the tips that help me with my fly game.Seeing what the bass pros use gives me ideas to try.The stuff that I have the best luck with is things I try to copy that the gear guys are useing with materials that I can throw with my fly rod.BTW bobbers work good,my 5 year old girl rips up the bluegill with a san juan worm.I understand what you all are saying, just trying to think out of the box.mabey next time I will throw on a big jucie worm.thanks for the jokes, mabey I will get some of those custom fly boxes.
  2. I have been thinking about spray on attractant, like what the bass gear guys use.Does anybody use this stuff on flies?I kinda feel it's cheating a little, but if it helps me get my fish numbers up,I will anything.I just don't know if it some how messes up the hair and fearthers, keep them from not flowing good?I just dont know.If anybody has tryed this let my know. Thanks, Bryan 'Salty Fly'
  3. Good luck,Any man that fishes with a purple reel is man enough man to fish with me.by the way I saw Primus last year and they rocked.
  4. Welcome,You have a great site and nice flies.
  5. craft foam works good for me,I coat it in a little haed cement,I make dragon flies for bass, those fish maul flies and it holds up for a dozen fish or so,the wings tend to fall or eatin up first.
  6. Thanks Rich, That video was great.I really like the fish skulls,Need to get my hands on some of the sculpin helmets.Really I want go get all the stuff to tie up that fly.A big old bass would like to eat it.
  7. The popper that works best for me is orange on black, black rubber legs, for the tail I like a little black buck tail, when I say a little I mean like 6 or 8 or so hairs then grizzly schlappen orange for the rest of the tail, with a little rootbeer krystal flash, for the body rootbeer medium estaz, toped off with rust deer body hair. Here are a few of my popper colors, the one I was talking about is on there.Just my two cents, hope that helps.
  8. I saw a frog like the one on your link at tackle warehouse.I had an idea to try to make something like that.I make a balsa body and made the legs artuclated, with beading wire.I drilled holes on the sides pointing back rearward.I put the hook point up.I spun a clump of deer hair on the shank. Then I made foam legs.I used a weed guard also just to make it as weed proof as I can.I fish a lake like your talking about, this time of year there is a ton of weeds, heavy cover with some holes.I throw my bug or in this case a balsa frog up on the weeds and rip it up and over the cover and in to the holes and back to the weeds.I cant believe the stuff I can pull it through.
  9. Don't worry you have a while. I haven't heard about the tiemco hooks not making it from Japan, but I guess that could become a serious problem if the factory was badly damaged. First the feather shortage and now the TMC hook shortage... margaretann-Addy sent The hooks are makeing it here,it is just takeing a few weeks. The shipping it all messed up.
  10. Mabey a peice of mono with some beads.I dont know if that would work for the pattern that you are working on.By the way theEmerald shiner that you tyed for the smallmouth swap is a great tie,the head wraps are so neat and clean.I am trying to learn from studying ties from the swaps. Thanks a lot, hopefuly I will get to be in another swap with you. Tight lines Bryan'salty fly'
  11. WOW!you guys are done, makes me feel like I am lagin'.I am waiting for some materials to come in that I orderd. It seems that the fly shop is haveing a hard time getting Tiemco hooks form Japan due the earthquake and tsunami.I will get them out as soon as possible.
  12. what is this crap,fishing t.v.s come on man,WTF.....

  14. My wife and I took my daughter, she is 5, to the lake for some good famley time this weekend.I got a hand full of large mouth early in the day. Then we kayaked around for a little bit found a nice place to sit and eat lunch.Hanging out in the shade,I saw a bunch of bluegills,I tied on a size 8 hex nymph they were hitting like crazy,I felt like I was cheating. So I called my gril over and I said do you want to try to fish with my fly rod,she has a little Barbie pole that she has hooked up with some gills before. She was more than stoked,I helped her with a few casts, got her in the sweet spot. She got in to a nice sized gill.I had her strip in the line she brought him in all the way.She was really happy to have landed a fish on dads fly rod.Latter she said to me that next she needs to learn to tie flies,I think dad needs to watch out, soon she will be kicking my butt all over the lake.It was a good day to share something I love with someone I love.
  15. Theres not a better game in town than hitting up the bucket mouths on a popper, yes sir.
  16. Size 6 works for me,I will do a pink with white hackle I call it my 'bluegill killer'it does not really 'kill' them,It just kills them.If I had to use one fly for the 'gills it would be this one.I will get them out soon,in the next few weeks, just to have it done. Thanks for hosting this swap.
  17. Thank you so much, wish I could see pic, that would really help, I will let it site for bit a practice on something else My camera took a dump,I need to get a new one.I want to post a bunch of pics of flies on the database.I will let you know when I get those pics up.
  18. I have made a few balsa frogs simalar to yours,I dont have any pics sorry.I did articulated legs with hook point up,I used size 4 and 2.I articulated it with beading wire,I stole from my wife,I drilled small holes in to the rear of the frog. Then took the wire pinched it in half, placed the hook on the wire. After you have a folded wire with the hook on I placed three glass seed beads over the two ends of the wire, epoxy the wire into your drilled hole, makeing shure that the hook point is up.Finishing the frog legs,I tied on a piece of 50# mono that I will later use as a weed guard. Then I spun a small clump of green deer hair on to the middle of the shank of the hook, leaving room at the bend and the eye of the hook to tie in craft foam legs. The craft foam is in green,I cut out a frog leg shape place the foam frog leg over the eye of the hook, tie on right behind the the eye, then whip finish.the next step is to tie in at the start of the bent of the hook. Then push the foam frog leg over the hook point and pulling the 50# mono into the same hole as the hook point make a few wraps of thread whip finish.Ok we the the leg on,now its time for the weed guard, push the mono into the foam and into the eye of the hook.I tie in again, useing hackle pliers I pull the foam back from the eye,tie on on at the eye of the hook, makeing a few wraps that are not to tight.cutting the mono at the eye,I pull the mono in to the thread wraps, whip finish. To finish the legs I use sharpie marker in three colors of green, makeing it look frogie.then I put a coat of of epoxy over the foam leg.well I know this sounds like a lot of work, but it is fairly eazy. When fishing this frog the hook float and ride hook point up and with the weed guard it is really weed less,I can chuck it way into cover and rip it out of and over all the weeds. The articuated legs move in when striping, then on the pause the legs spread back out, giveing the frog great movement in the water. Its all fun messing around with differnt stuff.
  19. I have been flyfishing for over twenty years I still get so pumped that my hands shake and fumble with the camera,I dont get many pics.stay with it, it gets frustrating some times but the challenge is what makes it rewarding.Best of luck.
