  1. I would like to star useing hooks with bigger gaps.I have been hearing talk about the Tiemco 8089,I think. Those flies I tyed with Tiemco 5262 #4.I want To get the right hooks for the diffrent kind of flies I am tying,I could use all the help That I can Get.I just want to tie better.Check out my new crawdad foam back streamer,It is in the tying bench. It should give a few sore lips to some bass. Thanks again guys for the great bugs.

  5. I like to use small bead chain on my buggers, gets the fly down and the hook point rides up.
  6. 3wt. for bass, thats crazy,I bet that thing was bent in half, super fun.I use an 8wt.more like a telephone pole compaird to the 3wt.
  7. The shell is craft foam, colored with sharpies then epoxy.
  8. Heres my crayfish, well its not mine. Its the River Knight,Fly Tyer winter '09,tied byNadica & Igor Stancev, hope I did it justice. The tail came out crooked, its all right the next one will be better.I used Silli legs, the pattern calls for fine chenille or phesant body feathers, the look of the chenille is nicer IMO.On the tie in the mag they used size #6-#8,I tied it a little bigger on an Tiemco 5263 in a size #2,Gona throw it at largemouth bass, wee will see should be good.let me know what you think. Thanks, Bryan'salty Fly'
  9. upsidedown frog.really cool, have to try to tie some up.ripin' lips on those largmouth.Great tie.
  10. Has anybody tied the River Knight crawdad(Fly Tyer winter '09) I am going to tie some up for largmouth bass,I think in size #4,they say #8-#6,I want to make it a little bit bigger. It should be a cool tie,not to hard.I have not tied with craft foam,it should be fun.any ideas on leg substituion, the pattern uses fine chenille or a pheasant body feather.silli legs might work.Looking around at the craft store I could not find anything good for legs. The chenille is the kind used on san juan worms. This bug should be good on Mr. Grumpy. Thanks, Bryan'Salty Fly'

  17. You are doing great.your progress shows in your pics. the top pink one is likeley one of your first. The top blue one looks like you have gotten it.Keep up the good work. "Fish hooks are sharp"
  18. So many hooks.I looked up most of those hooks, really some cool hooks.I need to mess around with all the diffrent hooks, tie up some pattrens with the hook on the list, not just use what I have. I love a big bass, but I fish the surf a lot.A lot of guys are useing the Gamakatsu B10s for surf flies on the cali. coast, that is a great hook.I did not think about that one for a bass bug.I have been thinking about fish mouths and how they take the bug.for large mouth I have seen them hit it from all directions, fast hard hits, slow hits, opening up there mouths and sucking up lots of water, the bug and any thing elese around.most of the time they take the whole fly.Right after the take or when the fish spits the fly At that point is the hook set most of the time.So if the fish eats the whole bug, location of the bend and the point of the hook is not really that big of a deal? I see some patterns, that are big flies and the hook is close to the front of the bug.I tie mine about a third of the way down or so.A big part of it probley is haveing that large hook gap and a strong hook. Thanks guys love the talk.
  19. I really need to learn more about hooks.I am useing Tiemco 5262,5263 in #2's and #4's for all of my bass bugs. Just seeing what you guys are useing.I like the Tiemco hooks, its the onely I have used,Its the brand of hook I started on,and never changed. I am looking for a hook with a bigger gap, mabey even some bigger hooks.most of my flies are no bigger than 4". my flies hook up with fish, I have had some short strikes but not to many, that I could feel.Anyway, thanks, any tips would be great.
