  1. I have a half dozen nor-vise auto bobbins and several regular and I use a threader on them, never any probs..

Too lazy to try and thread the end of the thread into the hole of the bobbin in the first place, the threader slides right in and springs open when through so easy as pie, to put the thread through and then slide the threader out and good to go..

  4. I live in South West Alberta, winter Chinook winds 40 - 60 KPH temps 10+c = good fishing..

Summer fishing 100 KPH great fishing weather.. most other fishers off water find a nice sheltered bend in river and fish

Spring and Fall = winds 0 - 110KPH fishing is on ... work the bends and with the wind!!!!

what is the issue with wind...

  6. You have no idea how hard it was to bring myself to google "Thing from Uranus" I was braced for all kinds of horribleness! But, indeed thats the imitation.

I belive this is a Salmon fly and heres a link that has good images of both.

    Salmon Vs. Stone

Great work and thank you guys. I just had no idea flies/nymphs this size were in the Neshannock Creek....I'll admit it....I was scared!

I have used "the Thing from uranus" from April to November and it is a great Fly.... have caught Bull Trout, Rainbows, and Cuttbows, and Cutt throut trout..

Man you caught me... I am .... always trying to stir up the Big City guys...

    HA HA HA

  8. I have the Pentax opticW30, damn near bullet proof but this is how I protect it from too many bumps and drops and make it easier to hold when wet..

I had one of the sylicone covers but it ripped to easy then I saw a friend with a neoprene cover he made from an old wet suite...

just sew it to fit with an open end to slide the camera out and a small end to put the lanyard through.. the add a carabeiner to the lanyard end and then this is important hook it to something your shirt your vest or what have you...

no probs after that... you can let it hang and it is protected and ready to use!!!

    just my 2c CDN

  10. It was a new rod in 2006 and this was the first fish that I caught with it. I got a good deal on the Bamboo on ebay. Apparently someone was selling rods they found in a closet that belonged to a deceased relative. This rod looked like a WW II era japanese bamboo rod. Apparently it had never been used. Maybe someone bought it while in the service and brought it home as a collectors item. There's a lot of these floating around on ebay. They're not particularly valuable as collectors items. But, they can be very nice to fish with. I fish with both bamboo and graphite. Sometimes I prefer the slow feel of a bamboo. Particularly for fishing wet flies, soft hackles and nymphs. You can get a very lifelike swimming action with a slight jiggle of the rod from a 8 1/2 or 9 foot bamboo that you just can't get from graphite or maybe I should say it's easier and more natural with a bamboo rod. There's a lot of guys building bamboo rods and selling them on ebay at very reasonable prices. Some are new rods and some are rebuilt old rods. But, Bamboo rod building has come back in a big way because of ebay. I have 5 bamboo fly rods ranging from 7 1/2 ft. to 9 ft. and 4 graphite fly rods. I bought all of the bamboo rods on ebay at under 120.00 2 have names on them and are low end collectibles and the other 3 don't have any names on them. All of them are very fishable rods.

I don't have photos of all my bamboo rods. But, that's something I should probably get photos of. Anyway, here's a shot of a Heddon model 359 bamboo rod. It's a 9 ft. 3 piece rod for 6 weight line. This is probably another WW II era rod. I'm not sure of the exact date these were made. It has a nice slow action, great for wet flies and nymphs. Perfect for twitching an emerging caddis. I got the Heddon with the original case for 95.00. It had been used. But was in very good condition. Some collectors suggest the value of this rod in mint condition to be around 365.00. So again, I got a pretty good deal on this one also. It pays to be a bargain hunter !

    Hi

Thanks and I agree full heartedly, I have two Bamboo rods that I would fish, the first is just an old rod still in good condition, and I may fish it on a small stream I just found last year. The other was given to me by my aunt when my Grandfather died, it is an Hardy rod he was given as a gift from his employees I may never fish it, he did once, broke the tip off one of the ends and had it fixed and then put it away, first time it saw day light after that was 40 years or so later when I opened the tube after getting it in the mail..

I look at that rod and remember all the good times we had fishing for 8" brookies and when he let me follow him Salmon fishing on the famous Mirimachi in NB..

Man I miss that old Guy...

Wow, amazing setup you have there. Organization, yeah organization, that is my New new year's resolution.

I really like those spool holders you have on the left cabinets. Are they available online somewhere?

I was considering trying to make something, but those would make my life remarkably simpler.

    Hi Ridleyffo

Check out the quilting shops or sewing shops they are from there and Wallymart.. not sure about online..on the right side of the pic are the larger ones...
