  3. I have never seen a Pike much less fish for them; however, I need any and all suggestions on what I need to do with this pattern. I watched and viewed a few pike flies and this is my version of a pike fly. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Hook: Gamakatsu 2/0 Wide Gap Red Tail: 3 Inch black rabbit zonker strip Body/Thorax: Black and red Marabou Head Area: Black soft hackle Thread: Black 6/0 I am thinking that I need to bring the zonker, body and all toward the eye a little more and make tighter wraps on the hackle? Sorry for the stray hairs
  4. Yeah the same girl I was talking about told me today that she seen a lady wearing one of those wide belts that they wear around the stomach area and the "buckle" was made, from what I gather, the section of a ring neck pheasant feathers. I guess it is all fun and games. Fashion for them is like new flie tying material to us I guess. Something new comes out and it becomes the hottest thing on the market until something else new takes its place. My buddy told me the other day that he didnt understand all the hipe over new products. He stated that he remembers as a boy that he would use old burlap sack material to tye flies. Oh well.
  5. I have never seen anything like this in my area, but the trout sure love it.
  6. So a couple months ago I am tying this flie with some wild color marabou my friend gave me, black biots, and regular yarn of the same color as the marabou. (just messing around with different stuff, one of those nights) Anyway, I tye this flie and chunk it to the side with the intentions to throw it away. Two weeks ago I go to my favorite fishing spot back home 5 hours away. It is raining bad, cold in the high 30's lower 40's, but I drove that far; therefore, I am fishing. I open my flie box to grab a BWO and I notice this ugly thing I tied. I do not know how it got there but it did. Anyway I throw everything I had in the box other than this wooly bugger thing I tied. After several hours of non stop rain and cold I thought, what the hell, I will try it. It was my last ditch effort to make the trip worth it. I had absolutly no faith in this thing, but it worked. I mean it worked great. The rainbows hit this thing as if I laced it with crack or something. I was in shock. I would have taken pics to prove, but the rain continued and I didn't want to mess up my camera. However, here is the pic of this "Thing" and that is what I named it. It was a bad weather fish killer.
  7. Ya have to mix extra sand in it to get a good bond to the head. Sometimes gravel too.
  8. I have to agree with you. If using super glue, Krazy glue, etc.. on the whip finishes, coat with head cement or Hard as nails and it will make a very nice head and will be quite durable. One thing to remember is when doing this process, it is better (in my opinion) to let the glue coats dry all the way for a while. This will ensure that the threads have been saturated, bonded, and all the cracks are sealed up. In other words the head cement or Hard as nails sets on top of the finished glue product instead of soaking into them. The head will be durable, smooth and shiny. Other than the head, I have found, with Davie, I adopted the method of using half hitches every so often in the tie process and the use of glue on underbodys which helps to reinforce the materials. I will not mention any shop names, but I have bought a few flie and caught 2 small rainbows and the flie comes apart. On further inspection I have found that there were no half hitches, glue or anything to help stabilize the materials used. Although the flies do not cost alot, it is the hassle of dealing with flies that come unravled during a fishing trip that is a pain. Thanks
  9. Well here it is: Hook: Mustad-Viking Bronz Short Shank Ex. Fine Wire size 8 (Don't Laugh) Tail: Marabou Olive Body: Weighted .015 oval lead wire, 3 Peacock Herls Fluffed wraped in reverse bronz wire wrapped away from, and black hackle. Head: Antique Brass Bead to fit. Thread: 6/0 Flymaster Waxed (Boat Anchor Rope sold sep. LOL)It might catch a fish or knock them out.
  10. Oh my! I feel bad now after seeing those flies yall tied. Mine is a boat anchor compared to yours. Well at least you be able to knock them out with mine if you can't catch them. I will post the pic in a few min. LOL
  11. Will is/was having a surgical procedure done....I'm sure that is all that is going on. Oh, ok thanks. Hope all is well.
  12. Have not been on here in a while due to holidays. I hate to make this a topic, but has the Dec. FTF Flybox give away winners and flies already been posted, or am I overlooking it? Thanks.
  13. Sounds good riffle, will do and send to you soon. Also will post pic. Thanks
  14. Not Really, I am just a novice tyer but I do catch a fish every now and again. However, She does not know much about flies; therefore, I will take advantage of the situation and charge a fair price for the flies if the person wants to wear them in her hair. As a matter of fact she stopped me again today and asked me if I could tye more for her daughter and mother. Hell, a trend is a trend. Take advantage of what we can get and go with it. Thats how I view it.
  15. So everyone knows about the hackles in the hair, and yes some are upset because of the prices; however, I have a solution to the problem. Today one of my wife's employees came to our house for a bit and noticed all my feathers etc. and she started asking about feathers for her hair that people are wearing. I said a choice few words as nice as possible when, at the same time I started to rant, she noticed a dragonfly I tied. She asked "Did you make that?" and I stated yes why do you ask. She stated "all those other flies also?". I said yes. Now, to make a long story short, she asked If I could tye her some dragonflies, parachute flies, and several others on a broach or hair clip and she would buy them to wear on her cloths and hair. Now, this lady I am speaking about is a die hard fan of Gucce, DG, prada, and all that other jazz. If we can't beat them, join them. If they wanna wear the hackles, we might as well tye them some flies to wear also. What do you think?
  16. I second the wet fly. I think there are so many variations and different materials one can use. The clouser and wooly bugger challenge had many nice patterns and I think we would see many wet flys also. Thanks
  17. I know Janns Netcraft online has some good deals every now and again. Might try them.
  18. Yeah I will try and leave a few. Now for a question: It has been forever since I have been there, and I am not sure what people are calling the evening hole. Is that in zone 1 or 2? I remember fishing the zone 1 from the big damn down to the little walk over bridge. I thought zone 2 started at the small spillway dam. Am I correct? If possible do you have a map or know where I can get one? I remember that each zone has its own regulations; therefore, I do not want to get in a bind. Thanks for your help.
  19. Fantastic pics Dubbn, what is that area you are fishing there if you don't mind?
  20. I know this is an old post, but damn that was funny!
  21. Good deal, as for the fishing. I talked to Linda today for a few and she stated they were closed until the day after Christmas. I think I will have all I need before I get there. I also asked her about the spawning situation and she stated that they have been spawning now for a few years. I checked it out online with the fish and game department and sure enough they are. That is a great deal. I remember in the early 2000's they were not spawning and now they are. This has been a great deal for me because I get to go and visit my old stomping grounds where I grew up and fished. Thanks again for your help.
  22. Have you ordered any hackle from this place before? If so, were they in good condition? Thanks
  23. You know I fished that area many years ago quite often and I noticed that, as crazy as it may seem, never had any luck on drys there. I dont know why, but that was generaly the case. Perhaps to much pressure on them with all the dry fly fishers or something. I always had good luck on the wooly buggers. I think I am gonna give them a call at Three Rivers soon to see how things are going there. It has been a while since I have step foot in that shop. I grew up in tha area and loved it but the Meth has devistated that area, but that is another story I suppose. Anyway, thanks for the input and maybe Ill run into ya sometime down there. Have a great Christmas
  24. Oh it is gonna be this coming Christmas weekend. I have not been there since early 2000. I used to help the game and wildlife people stock that area every now and then if I was present. I use to fish Zone 1 right below the still water. I would usually fish the riffle/ faster flowing water and have really good luck with the wooly buggers presenting them in the small wash areas where little habitats such as larger rocks and brush have piled up. I am thinking this Sat. or Sunday. Also, it is to my understanding that we, Ok. residents don't have to have a trout stamp anymore, is that correct? It is included in the lic. its self? Thanks and hope to see ya there.
