  1. Gidday all fellow fly flickers. Great site, heaps of great articles, pics and info, well done to all.Our season down this way is in full swing with lower than normal flows following a warmish winter in the South Island. The fish, browns especially are quite spooky however if it was easy what we do would be called "catchin" eh? Best for the season so far 7.5lbs of fighting hen from a stream 3' wide. Any body coming down this way for a holiday and wants some info I'm only too happy to help, South Island only. Dont have enough knowledge of the North Island. Have been fishing the rivers and streams of Otago and Southland for 15 plus years and 3 years back moved north to Canterbury, with my work taking me to the upper South Island and the West Coast (where every puddle holds a trophy...ya just gotta work for em!)so can offer info all free of course, over most of the island. Would enjoy hearing about others trips down here, areas fished, success or failure and the experiance.
  2. Best suggestion I have for newbies, for getting tidy hackle wraps, either for a sparse or heavily dressed dry pattern is to dub a light "bed" under where you will be wrapping the hackle. Use a colour to match the hackle or vary to add a little colour under the hackle. It tends to make the fibres sit tidier and generally at 90 degrees to the shank. Try it out
