  1. I would just like to take this moment to thank OLB for sending me a booklet for starters on the quest for perfect fly tying. I am almost through the book and my tying has improved 100%. The deal was when I am done with the booklet I will pass it on to the next person in need. I will honour this and as i will soon be done with this guide.......I too will mail this out to a beginner in need. Kind of like a chain mail I guess but with out the worry of bad luck coming your way.
  2. Wow, those look quite a bit better than mine that's for sure.
  3. So now that I have had a week to practice tying flies I woud like to thank everyone for their input. My learning curve has been quite steep due to the advise everyone has given me. The smallest thing I have tied is a 18 nymph and dry caddis. I am going to get to the river to see if these flies are acceptable from the fishes point of view. Carver, Talk to you soon as I am on vacation for the next two weeks.
  4. I'm thinking that I still need the lessons Paul
  5. From one first time tyer to another.......thanks!
  6. Well this is the first one. It is number 14 nymph hook with a bunch of crap on it. One question, how do you cement it properly so the whole tie doesn't spin around the hook?
  7. Thank you everybody for the advise, links and information. This site is a goldmind!!! I hope in time I can aquire the skills you have to give advise to those just starting out. Mike
  8. Thank you for the list. I am crazy anal and with you guys on my side I think this flytying thing will go quite well. In the future I hope to have more specific questions rather than"what the heck do I buy?" Any other advice or materials you guys can think of is much appeciated. The link is very handy! Once again thank you!!!!!!!
  9. True enough....I fish for Browns in the Grand River. So right now it is Light Cahills, Grey Fox and Caddis. What do I need for supplies for these?
  10. Finally purchased my first vise and it came with some tools. What materials should one first buy to get started? This weekend I plan on getting started. I grabbed my old fishing mags and finally started reading the tying sections so I plan on trying some of the easy ones they show. Any advice?
