I'm thinking you broke your old rod so as to have an excuse to get one of Steve's works of art.
-
So it's confirmed...we've got six crabby tiers, correct? I'll work on seven or eight crabs anyway.
Started on my eyes last night and they're ready to go.
-
No whiners, just crabs...I'm in.
-
Ok, thought I was done with swaps for a while cuz I wuz getting a bit crabby over hearing lame azz excuses why tiers were wanting more time to get their flies done etc. etc. but....
Wife says I'm crabby all the time so this seems appropriate for me.
What's the due date for this one?

After reading Capt. Bob's exercise instructions I recalled when a while back I took my heaviest spinning rod which would work well on big tarpon or jigging for big grouper and did a test with it. I wanted to see just how tough I thought this rod was and attached a 10lb (thought about using 20) dumbbell to it and laid it on the floor and wound the line up close and proceeded to lift it off the floor, properly using a rod jock. To my amazement that 10lbs felt like 40.
Well I just re-did that test and decided to HOLD the weight for a bit as Bob said. Keeping the rod horizontal or just slightly above I was quickly straining to keep just 10lbs up off the floor. If I tried to do that with a fly rod less than a 14 wt it might explode.
In summary fly rods are not generally built to do heavy fighting but designed for casting and high sticking or pulling from un handled areas is a recipe for disaster...sooner or later. Watching a video of Andy Mill shows how best to fight a beast with a fly rod.
My 2 cents

Pensacola has a fishing forum but don't remember exact logon on but find it and you'll find a bunch of info there for the panhandle.

Flats is still dreaming about 16 when he can get his DL.
Me? I dream about when I was 30 and had no aches and pains.
Stick to the books Flats, it'll pay off down the road.

So you're saying you hit a rock with your rod?
I've broken a few tips due to collisions with lead eyed flies and learned to never fish them with an on shoulder breeze.
Most of my rods are Redington and TFO. Great warranty no questions asked get a new rod.

There aren't too many wade access points to the Mosquito. You might find access areas right there in Daytona for trout and reds and of course the beach will have fish like whiting, snook, reds. Also Ponce inlet is a good area for all the above.
Flies? 2-3" baitfish and shrimp imitations.
You also look in the salt water section for more info.

I've been using diatomaceous earth for years to control roaches ( palmetto bugs ) and fleas around my house in Florida. Dog's happy and wife's happy which makes me happy.

Interesting that the first person to jump in is a no show.
Beautiful flies by Peter, as always.

As I always say to the younger guys at the Kingdom Hall who question my pink dress shirts "Two things...first it takes a man to wear pink...Second! ... "The ladies like it!".
Fish seem to like it too!

Awesome Dave!
I can also see from the second photo you are really into pink...rod and all.
Keep then coming.
If I don't catch something pretty soon I'll have to dig into my old archives.

Those are truly awesome Ben!

Takes a big man to admit a mistake...takes an even bigger and humble one to make a video and share it. At least you didn't damage the boat. Now that would have been really bad.

Dig that one with the yellow legs Dave.

Ben, you are a man after my own heart. Another true Jurassic set of hook holding jaws.
