And they're off! Do people like to see photos before their flies arrive or does that ruin the surprise?
-
Last package arrived today. I will be taking photos of the flies tomorrow and will get them shipped out on Monday.

Found a yarn in a color I think will work. Threw a quick pupa together. It needs a lot of work still (darker, fuller thorax, maybe a change in thread color) but I'm thinking with some adjustments it will catch fish.
how about green core braid tied in on the underbody?
Do a Google image search of 'Silvey's bead head caddis pupa' to get an idea of how it looks if you aren't familiar
That is a great looking fly. Might have to try that one too.

Looking through zip's link I believe it is neither of those. I'm thinking it is a little sister sedge that we have out this way in a few places. There might be a hare-tron that is close to the color I'm looking for that I may mix with some Antron.Apple or Grannom Caddis, probably Apple.
I also like the idea of other materials. Maybe some caddis green nymph skin pulled tight.

Where do you fish? Sounds like some seriously picky trout!
Yep, they are partly because these bugs aren't coming off in the riffles. They are coming out of some rather slow moving runs where they get plenty of time to look things over.
Mix the bright green dubbing with a little olive. Make sure to look at them wet, usually darkens.
Bright green and olive sounds like it will go too dark. I'll have to poke around and see if I can't mix something up. There are also a couple wool yarns I'm looking at that may work for pupae.

Haven't seen a dubbing that I'm completely satisfied with. These bugs are almost mint green and most caddis greens are too bright.

Alright ladies and gents, I could use some help matching the body color on this caddis/sedge. So, what out there matches what I am looking for? Any pattern advice you'd love to provide? Thanks for the help.

And you still count it as a great trip.

When you all see my fly, I'd guess there will be a lot of question as to whether it works. To ease any fears, I wanted to share this fish caught 2 days ago on this pattern. Wish I would've been the one catching but I simply helped this gentleman net the fish and take the pictures. He brought it in on 7x tippet too.

All but three sets arrived by the deadline and the other 3 are all in transit. Should be able to have the flies out at the beginning of next week.
-
After testing my biot emerger a little more I decided I wasn't happy with it. So, I switched to a local favorite called the puff daddy.
2 days until flies are due.
-
Rick, they went out a while ago. Haven't heard from anyone so I figured they made it to their destination.

SullyTM's flies arrived yesterday. I'm interested to see how it fishes. Some times being the SM is tough because you have all these tempting flies to try but don't want to before you send everyone's.

Fished a local tailwater this afternoon and the fish were going crazy for duns. Sure was a nice sight.
Due date is in 1 week!

Guess you got your cape tops in.
-
If I were you, I'd take a 40 minute drive north to Bob Marriott's Fly Store in Fullerton or 30 minutes north to His & Hers Fly Fishing Store in Newport Beach and see if they'd look everything over. There is a lot of info we won't be able to give you just by seeing pictures. It is tough to see what grade a cape may carry and lots of people will want to know what size flies the cape may cover. Things like tools won't be so hard but natural materials aren't all equal.

Front page is up to date and all those who have asked for an address have received it.
