  1. Here is a simple pattern made with a hook, mono, and mylar from food wrappers (like a Frito Chips bag or Bevita cookie wrapper) or a balloon. Used it for White Bass at our local lake trolling in a kayak with a fly rod or casting from shore with surf fishing gear! Video Demo.

    Micro Fly Rod

Fun time this evening catching Bluegill, Sunfish, and Bass on the Micro Fly Rod. Started with a Foam Grasshopper but then switched to a Tenkara Fly. No Bruisers save for a run on some nice size Bluegill that were making a nice bend in the little fly rod. Sure glad to have made use of that broken 8-Wt to make this rod. Fun stuff! Yesterday's Video.

  4. ... made a run to the point at the local lake. Too windy for kayaks; went with surfcasting gear. Sabiki flies worked well on White Bass, multiple hook ups were happening,... Penn Squall 15 did well casting for distance again! Fun stuff! Today's Video. Used the same sabiki flies when fishing with the short fly rod from the kayak. Looks like the flies do double duty on surfcasting gear!
  5. Was a fun day on the water; went Sunday and had a tougher time with more wind/waves this round. Fishing partner lost her fishing pole; used a handline we keep in our life jackets for backup. Worked well for her. Lost count after 20 caught using the handline. Sunday's Video. Crappie Jigs and Slabs were the key lures this round.
  6. Sabiki Flies was the pattern Saturday morning for White Bass. Saturday's Video. Rigged a Spinning Rod with Sabiki Flies made from a mylar ballon - simple tie, and then trailed a Slab for weight. Caught three keepers, but did catch and release a number of small ones. Fun stuff!
  7. Dusted off the surfcasting gear and headed to the point at the local lake. Went with Sabiki Flies and hooked up with White Bass. But, lost the rig to a snag. Will have to tie more! Switched to Crappie Jigs, Tube Jigs, and various fishing flies. Caught more on them; lost count after 20.Only four or five were keepers, the remainder were undersized. Still lots of fun surfcasting without the surf! Today's Video. Of the flies used - Blue/White Clouser and a Crappie Jig Fly Pearl Flash were getting bit!
  8. Finally made it out in the kayak. Birds were working the shad from above; White Bass were working the shad from below. Used a Fly Rod and a bow mounted rod holder to fish a tandem crappie jig and tube fly. Lots of fun with most bites on the tube fly! Video of the action.
  9. Birds were working the shad from above; White Bass were working the shad from below. Used a Fly Rod and a bow mounted rod holder to fish a tandem crappie jig and tube fly. Lots of fun with most bites on a red/white tube fly! Video of the action.
  10. Quick trip this morning; used an Orange/White Tenkara Fly. Caught Bluegill and Sunfish! Fun stuff... Today's Video.
  11. Fished the Olive/White Tenkara Fly this evening. This round dusted off the Tenkara Rod and used it to fish. Forgot how simple it is to pack up and go fishing with it. Really liking the ability to "pulse" the Tenkara Fly with the up/down twitching of the rod. This round it was 24 fish in a mixed bag of little Bass, Bluegill, and Sunfish. Fun stuff! Today's Video.
  12. Today tested a Red/White Tenkara Fly. Looks like this is another pattern to have at the ready! Today's Pictures.
  13. ... more testing of the Olive/White Tenkara Fly. So far, liking the results - 20 fish this round! 1 Bass, 1 Rainbow Trout, and 18 Bluegill!Today's Video. Go figure a trout in May from a local pond in Texas!
  14. Tested the Tenkara Fly. Caught one with it, then caught the remainder on a Foam Grasshopper. Green stuff clobbering the area made it tough to use the Tenkara Fly. Fun stuff catching Bluegill on their beds! Today's Video.

  16. Tied a Tenkara Fly in a reverse hackle Olive Body and White Hackle pattern. For ease of reference, calling it an Olive/White Tenkara Fly. Lost the fly to a Bass but did end today's round with eleven fish - one on the Tenkara Fly and ten on the Foam Grasshopper. Fun stuff... will get more Tenkara Flies tied for another round of "testing" Today's Video.

  18. Tried a new pond this round. Had passed by this little pond in the past but never stopped to fish it. On a whim decided to give it a try. Caught little Bass and Bluegill using the scaled down Foam Grasshopper. No Bruiser but still lots of fun! Today's Video. Was tough dealing with the trees and the overhanging branches but did get enough casts to hook a few!

  20. Quick trip to a local pond; caught twelve bass and lost several others. No Bruisers - largest went about 13". Still lotta fun as even these little Bass put a great bend on a two weight rod! Today's Video
  21. The smaller size Foam Grasshopper coupled with the Two Weight fiberglass fly rod did well this evening. Caught twelve bass and lost several others. No Bruisers - largest went about 13". Still lotta fun as even these little Bass put a great bend in the rod! Today's Video
  22. Fished Saturday. Caught about 20+ fish. Largest fish was a Bass that went about 14". Used a variant of the Foam Grasshopper and a Saddle Hackle Streamer. Caught all but one fish on the Foam Grasshopper! Lotta fun on a 2WT Fiberglass Rod! Saturday's Video.

  24. Went with the Foam Grasshopper and caught a number of Bluegill and Sunfish. Did get several Bass to look at our fishing fly, but all opted to move on instead of strike. Lots of brush made it tough on casting, good thing we practiced roll casting last year. Came in handy this round! Yesterday's Video.
  25. Been some time since we fished the Feeder Creek. Checked it out yesterday, and overall the creek is looking good. Not sure what today's rain will do to it. No worries, good excuse to come back again! Saw some nice looking Bass lurking in the area. Bluegill and Sunfish were also roaming about.
