  1. Just to update everyone, I have them all with the exception of Mako's entries; they should be arriving shortly. I will have them out in the mail as soon as the rest come in. In the meantime, I'll be taking photos of the flies and posting them; stay tuned...
  2. For saltwater fly fishing, I carry one box; it's all I need. For freshwater, typically 3: one for terrestrials, one for nymphs, one for streamers.
  3. I'd be willing to drop $20 for a badger skin. I use the fur for my variation of the silver march brown streamer, which is going in with the swap flies for the hair-wing streamer swap.
  4. I've died white marabou pink by putting it in a glass of hot water with one dyed red marabou feather. There's waaaaaaay too much dye in red marabou, as I discovered, and the end result was just what I was looking for.

Have any of you guys used this interface yet? Pretty cool!
  6. Great idea. Various packs of hooks come with a magnetic strip in the bag, and I use these for the same purpose. Cutting these strips and using them in a fly box would be a good idea, as well.
  7. OSD - Great idea re: soda cans; I never thought of that. Too bad we don't drink soda... but we do have miller lite in the can...

    Softex

I have used Soft Body (by Angler's Choice) for a few years (since 2000) and like it as an alternative to epoxy. It's water-based, doesn't smell like other finishes, cures quickly, may be purchased in thick or thin consistency, can be thinned with water, forms a hard head, and doesn't discolor with passing time as epoxy does. It's easy to clean up, in addition to all of that. I buy mine from Cabela's, though I imagine a lot of other fly tying suppliers have access to it. See this link for more information.
  9. Fishigan - See this thread on making your own boxes for a lot less $$$ than you'd pay at a shop. The boxes can be made any available size and shape.
  10. Crease flys, streamers, crawfish patterns. White bass are one of my favorite freshwater gamefish, peeling line off the reel several time before coming to the bank or boat.
  11. I haven't received my copy yet, but I know that pattern from a book I have called The Art of the Trout Fly, tied by George F. Grant. There are three patterns shown, one of them being the one that Graham posted for us.
  12. Okay, so we're back to 14 flies per entrant.
  13. I tie with the full-size model; wouldn't trade it for the world.
  14. I certainly will. They'll be up as soon as I get all of them in.
  15. Hey Guys - CapeBSalar joined one person too late. Does anyone have any objections to letting him in? It would mean an additional fly tied by all, bringing the total to 15 per participant. If there are any objections, please feel free to PM me or moskito. I'll ckeck back tomorrow evening (Tuesday) and if there are no objections we'll go ahead...
  16. A new addition to the fly pattern database has been submitted by Kingfisher: Bucktail Baitfish
  17. I've never heard of this before; interesting.
  18. Have a look here for the box I used, $4.22 each, a little more than I remember paying, but still a lot cheaper than the alternative of buying them from a shop.
