  1. Very nice, Chris. I tie something similar called a Grizzly Hex. I get a lot of swing hits on this fly when the salmon fry are hatching.
  2. I could see that, Wulff. That has been his business logo for a few years now because the Pere Marquette River is lined with maples. Maybe an orange maple leaf would have been a better choice. Or maybe he just likes Canada!
  3. Not sure if this is okay to post in the Photography section, but it seems at least a few of you guys dabble or work in visual arts. I recently finished a website for a friend. He had a lot of good photos to work with which always makes my job easier. He is really happy with it. One of Jeff's areas of expertise is swinging flies for steelhead so we tried to incorporate as many of those photos as possible. What do you guys think? Any and all criticism is welcome. http://www.outfittersnorth.com/
  4. My brother looking for that next bite. One of my favorite steelhead rivers. Another end to a day of chasing steelhead. For anyone interested, I usually include a photo report of my fishing adventures. Here are two from the past week in which I posted some of the photos here. http://www.talkflyfishing.com/index.php?showtopic=17138 http://www.talkflyfishing.com/index.php?showtopic=17163 Matt
  5. I'm antsy here too! This is the worst winter steelheading in my area in the last 6 years. But at least I can pursue them and even catch one now and then. Most of our trout water is closed too except for some catch and release stretches.
  6. These "ice bells" form under the shelf ice as the river level drops. A few more from today. Matt
  7. Wulff offered a lot of great info. I have the S3 which is an older version of the S5 it takes good macros for a point and shoot. Also offers some manual settings like aperture and shutter speed. The fold out and rotatable LCD is a very nice feature. Here are some shots I have taken with the S3... I'm not the best at taking fly pictures, mostly because of poor lighting but you can still see the detail. Waterfall shots after slowing the shutter speed... The kids... You can also view my gallery (link in my signature) for more examples. Most were taken with the S3. Hope that helps.
  8. Beautiful shots! How close were you? If you got to within recurve range, that is impressive.
  9. Can't wait... Damn, I have a lot to learn. As soon as I decipher your last post and learn what it means, I'll thank you!
  10. Very, very well done. Like I said before, I love your whitetail deer photos.
  11. Great shots as usual, Andrew.

    FINALLY!

Thanks guys and thanks Jay for offering the help. I'm sure I'll take you up on that offer. I've been running around like a little kid since buying it. I think I'm starting to annoy some co-workers with the constant picture taking.
  13. I purchased a Cannon XTi yesterday evening! I ended up choosing the XTi over the XT and Nikon D40. Can't wait to start shooting with it. All together, I spent more than I planned but isn't that the way it always goes. If anyone has some Cannon advice, I'm all ears.
  14. I like the bench shot. It leaves a lot to the imagination. Makes you wonder who has sat there before to watch a sunset or sunrise and what they thought or talked about. It seems during that winter I wish I was out with the camera more than any other time of year. I see so many potential shots. With that said, I'm ready for spring too! I've had enough of the cold and snow.
  15. Hope you had a good one Jay. Looking forward to the pics of your day off.
  16. Thanks everyone for saying kind things about my children. They are just as much fun as you all have imagined. I can't wait for the many hours spent on the water and in the woods with these two. Some of you have probably seen this picture before, but it's my daughter after reeling in her first steelhead at 2 1/2 years old. If you think her smile was big...you should have seen mine.
  17. Wonderful shots Andrew. You sure have some great scenery to shoot out your way and you do a great job of taking advantage of it. I always look forward to your posts.
  18. The last one is my favorite. I can't wait to see more... Also wanted to mention the whitetail deer photos in your gallery are amazing. I love watching and hunting whitetail and you do a wonderful job of capturing them.
  19. I'm trying not to think about that yet! Here's a couple more from the same session.
  20. A couple black and white photos I just had printed in 8x10 of my son and daughter. Matt
  21. I love the last pic. Some great scenery you have in your backyard.
  22. I don't know who would go the river without enough of a certain pattern. I can't believe you ran out of TMC 105 #6 wrapped in black thread. I thought you had hundreds of those tied up...or maybe it was skein flies. :lol2:
