  1. Flats, Yeah I follow him he's from Utah and am I so am I. So, I thought I would do a little campaigning LOL. They also opened up fly shop in Orem, Utah, which I totally plan to hit it up next time Im in that neck of the woods! What's your instagram name? I'll give you a follow.
  2. Im a beginner as well this sight is by far my favorite! I also like flyfishfood.com. I don't really posses the skill or materials to tie all of their patterns but they have tons of tutorials and you can buy materials from their site as well. In fact I think the forum member cheech is one of the head honchos! Check them out if you have the time.
  3. FRN, Yeah I've had the yellow rod for a few months now I definitely would recommend it for a canal rod or a truck/trunk rod you always have on hand! Mine is a 6' 6" 3 wt paired with a Cabela's cork drag reel I got on clearance. Its great for fishing small stocked ponds. It really shines when I find myself in tight overgrown mountain streams catching cutts. When I fish the more urban ponds around here I always have people running up to me asking if it's bamboo lol. In my dreams!
  4. Thanks for chiming in everyone. I knew that switch rods have different tapers when I originally posted, I should not have called it a switch rod. Shame on me I don't plan on doing this project soon, just thought it was off the wall weird, which has it's appeal to me as well as others. Kind of the "rat rod" look you know?
  5. Huh, I tried that many times, as well as any other way I could think of. I figured it was a problem on my end. Thanks, Mike!

  7. Having trouble posting the link. Any suggestions? EDIT: Until I figure this link thing figured out you can copy and paste the url posted below
  8. Im sure most of you are familiar with the eagle claw glass rods. They run around thirty bucks bright yellow. I have one and I love it, for the price I don't think it could be beat. Anyhow, I just ran across these instructions on how to build your own switch rod out of one. I'll be honest it looks pretty FUN. Like the article says rod builders are free to laugh their way through this one.
  9. Bimini, I've been trying to think of one, but have had no luck. Have any good ones? maybe you'll get a cut of the profit!
  10. I knew the wife going to cosmetology school would pay off for me. I'm going to have her buy some for me at dealer prices, re-package it and rip off all my tying buddies. LOL
  11. I appreciate the effort and creativity this took, although it is not my cup of tea!
  12. You are right when it comes to the paddleboard, im starting to abandon that portion of the idea!
  13. Flytire, I do not browse by material. I browse by tag, and search for the specific tag I want. It's like doing a word search, lol, but if you have the patience it works!
  14. I've overlooked the last few replies in this thread somehow lol. FRN, I was going to ask if there is a place that rents spey and switch rods so you can give it a shot. If there is I doubt there are any places near me lol. It would be great to give it a shot though and see if I want to purchase my own and start learning how to cast! Vicente, So a if a 5 wt switch needs a 7wt shooting head that same 5wt would have the "backbone" of a 7wt one hander right? I mean when you get a fish on it will feel like the fish is on a 7wt and not flex as much as it would with a 5wt?
  15. Yeah winter is a bit more busier time for me but I still have time every once in a while we will see what the future brings! I had a 4 day weekend last week and piddled it away im regretting it now big time! lol
  16. Vicente, I will probably coming out next summer after schools out. So i'll look into pyramid lake Also, if I am ever in the Sacramento area I will definitely let you know that sounds like a blast!!! Super generous of you to offer. Thanks, Brody
  17. If im looking for more specific flies i.e. deerhair, I just go to the browse by tag and look through the thousand or so tags. Its a pain in the you know what, but it works!
  18. I would also love to catch a Halibut. That is one good eating fish!
  19. Dave, Yeah I bet the fishing is great there, but isn't there cannibals inhabiting Donner Pass? The reason im asking about salt is because my wife has never been to the ocean so I figured we would make a trip and show her the beach, and if I got some fishing in it would be a nice bonus. I fish for trout often so catching a new variety would be an even better bonus. I'll do some research and look for the places you've mentioned and try to hit a few of them on the way out or way back. 8lb browns sound like a pretty fun challenge. Thanks for the info!
  20. Thanks for the HONEST opinion! I know your not a salt guy, So when you fished there did you have a sealed drag or did you just wash it off real good after?
  21. Mike don't tell me that for 2 reasons. 1. I already have a 5 wt. Ive got to convince the wife I need another rod somehow LOL. 2. I've been trying to talk myself out of just using my current 5 wt, which is by no means corrosion resistant, and rinsing it off later! If I do use it and it rots im blaming you!
  22. Also if I was to fish the bays and beaches in southern California mostly targeting Calico bass, sand bass, Spotted bass, and halibut what rod wt would be the best. The guide whatfly mentioned recommends a 5-8 so I would imagine an 8wt is ideal right?
  23. Whatfly, Thanks for the info. I actually found a little video series put out by capt Vaughn Podmore. I think it really cool of him as a guide to show places where he fishes around Newport beach to newbies. If I had the cash I would hire a guide in a heartbeat his prices seem very reasonable maybe I will have to save up some cash for trip. Thanks for the tips everyone keep them coming.
  24. Adam, yeah I have searched Dan Blanton and checked out his site, lots of info, but hard to navigate. It looks like orange Clousers are the go to. Just wondering if anybody has any personal experiences out west, you know?
